Going to Morocco can be a bit of a hassle IF you don’t plan ahead of time. Why? It’s because Indian nationals need to have a Morocco Visa before entering the country. So, before we proceed in giving you different routes to travel from India to Morocco, here are the visa requirements in obtaining a Morocco Visa for Indians.

Before going to Morocco, it is important to note that Indian Nationals are required to have a Morocco Visa.

While you can also choose to get a Morocco eVisa, there are additional requirements for you to be eligible. I’ll discuss more below.

Documents required for Morocco Visa

  • Completed Visa Application Form
  • Two identity photographs in color on white background show the face clearly. 
  • Identity card or residence permit showing proper address
  • Copy of your valid passport (validity of passport can not extend longer than the duration of your stay)
  • A copy of your Birth certificate
  • Bank statement as proof of funds
  • Return ticket back to India
  • Travel Insurance to cover your medical expenses while in Morocco
  • Proof of hotel confirmation (e.g., hotel booking voucher).
  • Cover letter explaining the purpose of your visit to Morocco or documents stating and justifying the purpose of your visit and stay. This can be an invitation letter from a host living in Morocco

Documents required for Morocco eVisa

Note: You are eligible to apply for a Morocco eVisa ONLY if you have an entry visa with multiple entries for USA, Australia, Canada, UK, Ireland, New Zealand, or a Schengen visa.

Along with this, you must have the following document:

  • Digital copy of the passport photo in JPEG or JPG
  • Scanned copy of your passport’s information page
  • Scanned copy of USA, Australia, Canada, UK, Ireland, New Zealand, or Schengen visa
  • Scanned copies must be in JPEG, JPG, or PDF
  • The file size must be a maximum of 1 MB

Different Routes: Travel to Morocco from India

Flying from India to Morocco – These suggested routes all have one layover. There are other cheaper options, but they usually have two or three layovers.

Route 1 – Travel to Morocco from India

Fly from Ahmedabad to Casablanca via Dubai

In order to visit Morocco from India, tourists must fly to Dubai first as a layover. Now, you might be wondering if you need to apply for a Dubai visa – No. As long as you stay in the transit area, then you do not have to apply for a Dubai transit visa.

Emirates is the most popular airline that travels from Dubai to Casablanca.

Estimated Travel Time

A trip from Ahmedabad to Dubai will take you 3 hours and 15 minutes (direct flight). Then from Dubai to Casablanca, it will take you at least 8 hours and 45 minutes. This gives you a total of 12 hours of travel time. Layovers are not yet included. 

Route 2 – travel from India to Morocco

Fly from Mumbai to Marrakech via Istanbul

For this route, it is the same case with the Dubai transit. You do not need to apply for a transit visa if you won’t leave the airport.

Turkish Airlines is the most popular airline that travels from Istanbul to Marrakech.

Estimated Travel Time

A trip from Mumbai to Istanbul will take around 7 hours (direct flight). Then from Istanbul to Marrakech, it will take you at least 5 hours. This gives you a total of 12 to 13 hours of travel time. Layovers are not yet included.

Route 3 – Travel from Delhi to Marrakech

Fly from Delhi to Marrakech via Munich (Germany)

Aside from the Istanbul route, there’s also the Munich route but the starting point is in Delhi. 

Indian nationals need a transit visa in order to transit via Munich. This transit visa only allows you to stay at a German International Airport. If you wish to leave the airport, then you will need to apply for a Schengen Visa.

Requirements for a German Transit Visa:

  • Valid Passport
  • Application form and declarations duly signed
  • 1 copy of your passport’s data page (A4 size)
  • Copy of the valid visa / residence permit for your final destination (if applicable)
  • Flight reservation 
  • 2 passport pictures according to biometric specifications, not older than 6 months

Airlines that Fly from Munich to Marrakech

Lufthansa is the most popular airline that travels from Munich to Marrakech.

Estimated Travel Time

A trip from Delhi to Munich will take around 8 hours and 50 minutes (direct flight). Then from Munich to Marrakech, it will take you at least 3 hours and 40 minutes. This gives you a total of at least 13 hours of travel time. Layovers are not yet included.

Route 4 – Travel to Morocco from India

Fly from Mumbai to Casablanca via Riyadh

Another route to choose from is the Riyadh route. As for the transit visa, there are considerations that you have to take note of.

This information is from the Saudi Arabia Embassy regarding stopovers in Riyadh:

  • Stopover of less than 12 hours with a connecting flight with the same airline:
    The transit visa is not required. During your stopover, you will not be able to leave the transit zone.
  • Stopover of less than 12 hours with a connecting flight with a different airline:
    A transit visa is required and should be requested from the nearest Saudi Arabian Embassy. Even with a transit visa, no exit from the transit zone is allowed.
  • Stopover of more than 12 hours and less than 96 hours with a connecting flight with the same or a different airline: The transit visa is mandatory.

Saudia is the most popular airline that travels from Riyadh to Marrakech.

A trip from Mumbai to Riyadh will take around 4 hours and 50 minutes (direct flight). Then from Riyadh to Casablanca, it will take you at least 7 hours and 50 minutes. This gives you a total of at least 13 hours of travel time. Layovers are not yet included. 

Route 5 – Travel to Morocco from India

Fly from Delhi to Casablanca via Abu Dhabi

As for the Abu Dhabi route, a transit visa is also not required if your stopover is only for four hours or less. However, you should not leave the transit area for this period of time.

Etihad Airways is the most popular airline that travels from Abu Dhabi to Casablanca.

A trip from Delhi to Abu Dhabi will take around 4 hours (direct flight). Then from Abu Dhabi to Casablanca, it will take you at least 8 hours and 45 minutes. This gives you a total of around 13 hours of travel time. Layovers are not yet included. 

Conclusion

That’s it! Those are the different routes to take in order to travel from India to Morocco. Again, they only have one layover so they can be pricey (depending on the date of travel). There are still a lot more options with two or three layovers, but it will take so much time. There are a lot of things to do and wonderful places to visit in Morocco, so time consideration is a big factor.
