Green Roses at Yercaud

A rare variety of rose, I saw these green roses in full bloom in the botanical gardens of Yercaud during my trip there a few years back. Yercaud is a hill station near Salem, Tamil Nadu, and India in the Servarayan range of hills in the Eastern Ghats, South India.

  1. Those are very interesting. The shape of the petals reminds me of the white oak leaf. I would love to see one of these in person!

  20. I have never seen green roses in my life…until now! Never knew they even existed!

    How unusual these are!

  22. I used to wonder as to how there could be green roses. But they were there. I had a plant and could not continue to have the same feel for long. Had there been a different shade of green, I things they would looks graceful.

  23. I've done some research in plant mutations before and it looks like those are actually sepals (small leaf like structures that protect the bud/flower). I'm unsure of the specifics, but I think it's a mutation in the MADS box which has resulted in sepal forming in place of petals. The petals are those faint pink structures. Would love to see this in person and study it myself…Thanks for the photo 🙂
