Bangalore Sunrise: Where is the Garden City? – a Short Poem

Where is the Garden City?

Watching Sunrise in Concrete Jungle of Bangalore I am reminded of H W Longfellow’s poem “Sunrise on the Hills” I crave to see one, but this is the sight I get to see.

Where are the hills?
I see none around me.
Where is the sunrise on hills?
Distant horizon outlined with sky rise buildings.
Rays of rising sun
Penetrate through smog hanging low
Gentle breeze with a faint hint of smoke
From garden city to concrete jungle

Oh! What a pace pack for my city
No sounds of distant waters dash
Instead I hear the screeching siren
Heralding office working hours.
Mad rush begins, bending roads begin to swell
with rows of honking motors
Drowning the sounds of temple bells
As if competing who can be louder
Where is the sunrise?
I see it through my neighbors’ apartments.
I just see their walls brightening,
reflecting sun’s rays.

.

Sunrise on the Hills
I stood upon the hills, when heaven’s wide arch
Was glorious with the sun’s returning march,
And woods were brightened, and soft gales
Went forth to kiss the sun-clad vales.
