Malindo Air Economy Class Review Bangalore to Kuala Lumpur

Malindo Airlines is relatively new in south-east Asian airlines sector. Its India services started some time in 2014. Recently I traveled in Malindo Air from Bangalore to Kuala Lumpur and back. Though I have traveled to and via Kuala Lumpur before, this was the first time I experienced a flight in Economy Class of Malindo Airlines.

Self check in facility is a boon and I did it in the comfort of my home. There was some technical glitch, however it got resolved quickly. I was among the first few to arrive at Malindo airlines counter and found it devoid of any queue. A helpful staff there helped me through the luggage drop procedure. Not needed for the simple task but I guess their presence and involvement helps during rush hours.

Malindo Air Baggage Allowance

Economy class passengers of Malindo Air are permitted to carry one piece of cabin baggage and 1 laptop bag and free checked baggage allowance is 25kg. I was well within limits. After all I had serious plans of shopping in Malaysia!

Arriving early had its own advantages – a relaxed get through customs procedures, security check in and stroll through duty free shops. I was looking forward to the next 4 and half hours flight to Kuala Lumpur.

Malindo Air Economy Class Review

My ticket was for economy cabin but as I walked towards my seat I couldn’t help but notice the plush business class cabin seats. The seats are spacious with glossy seat covers and luxurious leg space. Envy, envy, envy!!!

The seats in economy class are 3-3 configuration. Overhead luggage bin had good amount of space, with my cabin baggage shoved in there I settled down comfortably in my window seat. Felt really thankful to Malindo airlines as I tore open the packet with neatly folded blanket. The plane was three fourths filled with passengers. I chose the window seat with the hope of capturing a neat sunrise from my window as we land in KL. Unfortunately for me the sky was overcast with dark clouds. Or maybe I was in west facing seat.

In-flight Meals

By now I was quite hungry and looked forward to the in-flight meals service. And just as expected within minutes after takeoff and seat belt sign off they started their service. Malindo airlines don’t provide hard drinks on flight, that’s okay with me since I don’t take them. The meals pack was a bit disappointing. No dessert! Just roti, sabzi and a glass of fruit juice. The return trip was same, rice and sabzi. No dessert again!!! Taste was just okay.

In-flight Entertainment System

While the aircraft for my onward flight to Kuala Lumpur there was no entertainment system, my return flight aircraft had a good touch screen unit with an intuitive interface. It had loads of Hollywood, Tollywood and Bollywood movies. I finally got to see the movie Rangoon, a gripping tale till the end. There is a USB port on the panel which you can use for recharging your phones.

Overall Experience in Malindo Airlines

All in all the experience was a good one. Considering that it is a low cost airline the services provided was good. Flights were on time. Baggage retrieved from belt on time. Looking forward to another cool trip with Malindo Airlines again!

Update on Malindo Air Economy Class Review:

I flew once more with Malindo Air in November 2019 from Chennai to Bali. While the experience was a good one, I noticed that they have discontinued complimentary meal and snack service in economy class. They have discontinued this service from September 2019.

This trip was courtesy Tourism Malaysia, Tourism Indonesia and Malindo Air.
Opinions are completely mine.
