Things To Do at Genting Highlands
Here is a list of Genting Highlands Top 10 Things To Do that can keep you engaged whole day long with your family.
Cable Car Ride at Genting Highlands
While there are roads connecting connecting Genting Highway Premium Outlet and Skyway Avenue, I suggest a cable car ride there is worth experiencing. There are 2 cable car companies operating in Genting Highlands. I experienced a ride in Awana Skyway Gondola. (After a long time I traveled in a cable car, last time it was in Singapore.)
The cable cars are attractive, spacious and have comfortable seating. Some of them have glass paneled floors which enables you to see the entire stretch of lush green mountains. However they have only 6 seats compared to 10 seats in the normal one and are comparatively expensive. It is a 3.4km long ride over major landmarks within the highlands.
You can see the green 120-million-year-old rain forest, Sky Avenue Shopping Mall, Chin Swee Caves Temple and the upcoming 20th Century Fox Malaysia Theme Park.
Don’t be surprised if you have to stand in a long queue for the ride, so best is to arrive early. For all first timers this is definitely one of the finest in list of Genting Highlands Top 10 Things To Do.
Chin Swee Temple
Chin Swee Temple (Pagoda) magnificent with mist and cloud covered mountains in the background. It is a popular Taoist Temple (not a Buddhist Temple) in Genting Highland. The nine storey pagoda here is the most visited one.
Other major landmarks that are must see are: gigantic statues of Buddha and Kuan Yin, as well as intricate sculptures of animals and inscriptions of ancient Chinese traditions and beliefs. They worship the statue of Qingshui, a Buddhist monk. He is referred to as a deity in Fujian province of China for his supernatural abilities to summon rain and drive away evil spirits.
The cable car has a stop at Chin Swee station. Chin Swee Caves Temple is at a walking distance from this station.
Ripley’s Believe It or Not Odditorium
This is the second time I am visiting a Ripley’s Believe It or Not museum and not bored yet. The collection presented here in Genting Highland is queer, uncanny and freakish. Each display is supported with info, pictures and models. The audio guide to some of the display too is good. Here is a collage of some of the pics I took there.
Zombie Outbreak
This one is purely for those who seek horror thrills. Not my forte and I avoided it. But those among you who are brave will definitely enjoy this.
Jurassic Research Center
The name makes you curious, right? It made me curious too. Inside there is a mini jungle teeming with dinosaurs of all shapes and sizes. And they move!, They sway their heads, make eerie sounds… this one captivated me for long till I realized my team had exited the jungle and were waiting for me to exit. There is a display of models of fossils retrieved from different parts of world. Quite a learning experience for interested kids and adults alike!
Alive Genting Museum
The museum has remarkable paintings with 3D effect. All corners, walls and rooms are covered with scenes from different realms of universe. Perfect place for good insta worthy pictures. Backdrops here are indeed crazy!
Rides for Kids
At Sky Avenue I saw kids taking rides on dinosaurs. And once again I regretted growing up. I mean toy train rides are fine but rides on moving dinosaurs took the imagination to a whole new plane.
Sky Symphony at Sky Avenue
Resorts World Genting presents Sky Symphony in their magnificent atrium. It is a free-to-public performance showcasing an extraordinary orchestra of audio, visual and motion graphics programming.
We witnessed a musical masterpiece performed by a deep-ocean orchestra! The team is led by Maestro Ning, a tempestuous sea turtle genius. Kids around clapped with excitement when this was screened. With a flick of his baton Maestro Ning makes musical magic with a colorful collective of fish and crustacean instruments on a stunning stage in the ocean depths. This was mesmerizing. It went on for a little less than 5 minutes.
There are 3 other spell binding stories with larger than life cinematic visuals and original music mix.I have here a recording of the same. Check out with the authorities for the timing to various shows.
Shopping in Sky Avenue Genting Highlands
While your kids are busy enjoying the various thrills of Genting Highlands you can indulge in shopping. Both Genting Highland Premium Outlet and Sky Avenue have a wide range of branded stuffs. They include toys, gifts, fashion clothing, electronic goods, accessories and jewelry. And goes without saying they cater to all age groups.
Besides these major shops with branded stuffs you can check out gifts and souvenirs at indoor theme parks. Some of the floors of Sky Avenue are dedicated to only shopping outlets. The décor done is attractive and eye catching; overall ambiance is a ‘feel good’ one. Only take care to see that you don’t get too carried away and exceed your budget for shopping if you have any.
Dining in Sky Avenue
The food options at Genting Highlands are so huge that it is advisable you arrive with some specific restaurant or cuisine in mind. Otherwise good chances are that you may end up spending precious time finding your favourite haunt. It is hard to come to a conclusion when you see so many food joints, each one more tempting than the other. I saw more food outlets there compared to shopping outlets. Does that indicate tourists are fonder of eating than shopping?
Add to these fully functional restaurants, there are shops for small and local eats too. Several ice cream parlors dot the different floors of Genting Highland Premium Outlet and Sky Avenue. Check out the grocery stores there if you plan to carry back food items to prepare meals at your comfort in your rooms of the hotels there.
Strawberry Picking
Nestled within the serene landscapes of Gohtong Jaya, the Genting Highlands Strawberry Leisure Farm offers golden opportunity to indulge in farming activities. This picturesque tourist destination boasts a unique specialization in hydroponic strawberry farming. Guided tours offer an immersive experience, allowing guests to witness firsthand the cutting-edge methods employed in hydroponic cultivation. Read more: Genting Strawberry Leisure Farm Kuala Lumpur
