Faces of India – 334, Jewelry Vendor from Jaipur, Rajasthan
She, a jewelry vendor, has come all the way from Jaipur to Bangalore to sell her jewellery creations. During Durga Puja, the pandals of Bangalore are lined with several shops; most popular among those are the shops with jewelry from Rajasthan.
Women even in their finest gold jewelry flock around these shops and haggle over prices for these bead creations. They come in all colors and are easy to match with different colored sarees. That is some kind of fun for both sides.
Faces of India
a series through which I intend to portray the various characters of my country whom I met during my travels. I bring back souvenirs, frozen moments from my travels, why not some memories of people I have met and interacted during the travels. Faces of India is a weekly series in my blog since MARCH 2011. See more here…
The vendors are smart enough to hike their prices beforehand. Haggling turns into conversations and chitchats. I guess most women can relate to that.
As she showed me her creations I got more interested in her silver armlet (band or bracelet worn round the upper part of a person’s arm). I asked if sells those kind of armlets while appreciating them. She smiled with a no.
I did purchase a set from her and she reduced the price from Rs250 to Rs220. I am sure she profited well as she willing smiled for my pic.

Wow. Interesting article. I too visited Jaipur couple of times and with my experience I wrote an article about the best must visit places to see in Jaipur City.
A charming lady, beautifully captured! Good to know about the jewellery she sells 🙂 Will look for Rajastani sellers during such events 🙂 Thanks for sharing your experience with us.
Nice to read. Beautiful portrait.
I am heading to Rajasthan in November. I can’t wait to see all the beautiful bead work of these jewellers. Many thanks for sharing. Mel
