Peterskirche – St. Peter’s Church: Walking Tour Vienna

During our walking tour of Vienna we veered into a narrow lane and were astounded to find this beautiful green patina domed St. Peter’s Church. We reached oldest religious site that once had the oldest church of Vienna. In the early middle ages, around late 4th century, this place had a church, but sadly nothing of it remains.

After that a Romanesque church came up in the same place established by Charlemagne (Charles I) in around 800AD. But again there are no remains of that church too. What we see today is a lavishly decorated baroque church! It ranks in oldest churches of Vienna.

It is small compared to St Stephen’s Church nevertheless it has a calm aura around it that attracts you to it.
