Amazing Orchid Exhibition in Lalbagh Bangalore
Amazing Orchid Exhibition in Lalbagh Bangalore, we were told sixty varieties of Orchids in all their colours, shapes and multiples, along with several hundreds of their hybrid varieties are on display in the Orchid flower show in Lalbagh.
Over the course of two captivating days, the city’s attention was captivated by the exquisite allure and significant commercial value of orchids. The Orchid Society of Karnataka (TOSKAR) orchestrated its highly anticipated 7th Orchid Show on October 19 and 20 at the esteemed Dr M H Marigowda Hall in Lalbagh.
This event showcases a splendid array of orchids. It serves as an enlightening experience for the general public and those with a keen interest in cultivating these enchanting flowers. There is a common misconception that orchids cannot thrive in the climate of Bengaluru, but that notion couldn’t be further from the truth. It is imperative that people seize this opportunity and harness the potential of growing orchids in Bengaluru.
The Orchid exhibition in Lalbagh not only highlighted the aesthetic charm of these delicate blooms but also dispelled prevailing myths, encouraging enthusiasts to embrace the possibilities of cultivating orchids in Bengaluru’s unique climate. Orchids, known for their remarkable beauty and ecological significance, emerged as the centerpiece of this remarkable event, drawing the attention of both the public and horticultural enthusiasts alike.
This is the 7th edition of orchid show, which initially commenced in 2012. The primary objective behind this event is to foster, propagate, and popularize the cultivation of orchids not only within the city but also in urban and rural areas across the state. Simultaneously, there is a pressing need to raise awareness regarding the conservation of orchids in their natural habitats. The meticulous display and arrangement of these captivating flowers are primarily executed by the dedicated members of the society.
Some time back I visited the Lal Bagh flower show, it was the orchid plants collection there that got the maximum wows. A very impressive collection the display proved to be photographers’ favorite. Downloading my collection later I saw them smiling at me. There seemed to small faces in the center of the flowers which seemed to have big eyes and a broad smile.
Orchids are such a joy to see, particularly when you have them smiling back to you, no?
Do you see what I see?
In addition to the visually captivating display, the Orchid Show featured various counters offering the sale of orchid plants, potting accessories, and informative books on orchids. To further enrich the experience, training sessions and engaging demonstrations on diverse aspects of orchid cultivation were conducted on both days. These sessions aimed to provide valuable insights and practical guidance for enthusiasts seeking to enhance their knowledge and skills in growing orchids.
The event served as a holistic platform, combining exhibition, sales, educational sessions, and expert guidance, all contributing to the promotion and development of orchid cultivation in the region. TOSKAR‘s commitment to fostering a thriving orchid-growing community was evident through their efforts to create awareness, offer valuable resources, and empower individuals to delve into the captivating world of orchids.
According to an orchid seller participating in the show, there exists a staggering variety of orchids, with approximately 25,000 species and countless hybrids. Each type of orchid possesses unique requirements for optimal growth. Typically, orchids thrive in semi-shaded environments and should be watered based on their specific potting medium and pot size. The assortment of orchids available at the show spans a wide range, including popular varieties such as Dendrobiums, Cattleya, Encyclia, Epidendrum, Cymbidium, Cycnoches, and many others.
There are orchids specifically suited for beginners, as they are relatively easy to cultivate at home. Furthermore, certain orchid species are rare in India but adapt well to our local environment. Once orchids begin to bloom, they retain their exquisite beauty for over three months, making them a worthwhile investment.
Stunning Blue Orchid Flowers in Lal Bagh, Bangalore
Orchids are fascinating and what if you get them in your choice colors! I happened to see these blue colored orchids in Lal Bagh Bangalore during their annual flower show. Blue colored flowers are rare. And blue orchids are rarer. But the orchid isn’t actually of blue variety. In fact there are no true blue orchid flowers.
It is a simple science experiment by kids. Within 24 hours a flower in your choice color is ready! With a dyeing process anyone can make orchids of their choice colors. Blue orchids had their own significance and meaning in ancient Greece. They convey virility and strength.
