Italian Car Transporters – Road Trip Sights
Driving through the roads of Italy we came across some interesting sights. During one such trip, in the distance, a line of colossal car transporters emerged, like towering giants dominating the landscape. The sheer magnitude of these vehicles was astonishing, their metallic frames glistening in the fading sunlight. We followed the caravan of car transporters till I could click some pictures.
I mean not the ones on either side of the roads but the ones on the road. All kinds of vehicle were driving by at great speed. We rarely took the leftmost lane; we were never in a hurry. So that gave me enough opportunity to spot the interesting sights, trail them and take a couple or more shots. This post is one on Italian car transporters.
A car transporter is also known as car carrier trailer, car-carrying trailer, car hauler, or auto transport trailer. It is a type of trailer or semi-trailer designed to efficiently transport passenger vehicles via truck.
Seeing the cars I observed each one carried a multitude of automobiles, a diverse collection of dreams and memories. Where were these cars headed? What adventures awaited them in their new destinations?
From family road trips, like ours, to thrilling escapes, the car transporters are vessels of possibility and endless journeys.
Cars we have seen, even the single ones being carried on a truck, very common in India too. When I started spotting trucks with more number of cars I started to think about them as interesting blogpost pictures. Four cars all stacked in a line neatly, the last one sloping downwards a bit. Arunabha knew what was working in mind and took a bit closer each time I pointed such a truck and I used to get into my clicking spree.
Italian Car Transporters
Here is one more with eight cars. The new cars were probably meant to be delivered to some showroom for buyers. That was evident from the blank number plates. Car transporter or car shipping seems to be a flourishing business in Italy. People purchase car from almost anywhere in the world and get the car shipped to their home. Sometimes the online car sales are more frequent than regular sales.
Not always the cars were new. Some of the trucks carried badly damaged and smashed cars. Traffic here in Bangalore is chaotic, and it is not often that we travel on highways here. So sights like these were definitely something for me to shoot and freeze.
Since 2011 Trenitalia has suspended the shipping service of passenger cars in Italy. The alternative solution is therefore transport by car transporter. This is my entry for Thursday Challenge Photo Theme which is “METALLIC” (Metal, Shiny, Mirror, Clothes, Cars, Jewelry,…).

Cool pics – love the shape and form of these stacked cars!
I have seen eight new Marutis, transported like this on the Bangalore-Mysore highway once.
(The sloping down car looks so dangerous , can stop myself thinking, "what if……" )
Fascinating how transporting cars on a long vihicle is done. I am always afraid that the truck will lose one of the cars.
I don't like being behind such a lorry.
Unusual but intersting. All the best. Nice shots!
The last one looks like it is about to topple over.
The engineering feat that goes into the transportation of vehicles…….
well captured by your camera.
Very nice and unusual "metallic" pictures, Indrani. Here we see very often those trucks full of brand-new cars in the motorways.
The new cars without licence plate are destinated for sale and delivered to car shops, they are on a truck otherwise there would be kms on the counter. The damaged cars are carried for distruction, and the single one carried by the yellow truck is probably out of use because of an accident or a technical problem.
I think you have got the perfect post for today's Thursday Challenge theme. Cheers!
nice pics
Very interesting and unusual theme. Best of luck!
Beautiful captures.
I love this shot…thanks for the visit.
Thank you for sharing your metallic photos. I've also seen those kind of sights whenever I'm traveling back to my home province.
Hope you could visit mine too!
