Amazing Caves of Gunung Mulu National Park Sarawak Malaysia
Rafflesia – world’s biggest flower is the main attraction of Gunung Mulu National Park in Sarawak Malaysia. This is Asia’s best park to view this flower.
Rafflesia flower is a rare one with short blooming period. So your luck factor plays a crucial role for your visit to coincide with the blooming period. It is possible to check with park officials to know when a flower is about to bloom.
Other activities in Gunung Mulu National Park are tours to show caves and adventure caves with difficulty levels ranging from low to extreme.
A stretch of 295km of explored caves here are home to thousands of bats. A sand stone pinnacle, Gunung Mulu, 2,377 m high dominates the National Park.
One day won’t suffice to tour the entire stretch. Four to five days will be ideal. There are plenty of hotels.
The walks organized are filled with adventures taking you through various caves like Moonmilk cave, Deer cave, Wind cave.
Try to plan with time enough to explore 3 main Caves of Gunung Mulu National Park: Sarawak Chamber, which is popular as the world’s largest underground chambers, Deer Cave, it is the largest cave passage in the world, and lastly Clearwater Cave, the longest cave system in Southeast Asia.
The show caves are impressive with a number of beautiful stalagmites and stalactites growths. A decent level of fitness would be required to squeeze yourself through some tight spaces, though you don’t have to be an experienced trekker or climber. Besides bats, this National Park is a natural habitat for wide variety of plant and animal species.
This National Park was included in UNESCO World Heritage site in 2000.
Important both for its high biodiversity and for its karst features, Gunung Mulu National Park, is located on the island of Borneo in the State of Sarawak. The Sarawak Chamber measuring 600 m by 415 m and 80 m high is the largest known cave chamber in the world.
