Faces of India – 254 Sadhu in Kankalitala Temple
Faces of India,
Faces of India is a series through which I intend to portray the various characters of my country whom I met during my travels. I bring back souvenirs, frozen moments from my travels, why not some memories of people I have met and interacted during the travels. Faces of India is a weekly series in my blog since MARCH 2011. See more here…
One of those men for my faces of India series who has renounced everything and dedicated himself to God, a sadhu! It amazes me each time I see some of the sadhus display their passion or talent to collect some donations. They live for themselves totally oblivious to the developments taking place around them. Go to a temple and you surely will find at least one sadhu seeking alms.
I met this sadhu near Kankalitala Temple in Bolpur, West Bengal. Both sadhu and me spent some time lost in our own worlds; he immersed in his devotion for God and me admiring his talent in playing the flute so melodiously.
Just gorgeous!
Your post made me to hear Hariprasad Chaurasia. Haven’t heard him for a long time. Thanks for the reminder 🙂
Continuing custom of India .
Beautiful portrait!
Great capture. I enjoy reading the story behind the pictures you capture 🙂
Reminds me of my great grand father :’)
The Sadhus must be living such an uncomplicated life. The calmness reflects on his face.
This is one series of yours’ I look forward to. Great picture as always.
Nice click 🙂
Perfect capture we say! It looks like he was completely unaware of you clicking his pictures!
Once I met a sadhu in the local train, singing verses from Ram Charit Manas, while lost in his own world. It was so mesmerizing!
The thing I love about this series is, it showcases things which we see daily and never spare a thought about! Loved it!
He is so much into his world looks like he doesn’t need anything than his flute. Sadhus can provide us good company on our travels. Clicking their photo is must as a memory. We remember taking many photos of Indian sadhus during our Amarnath yatra. There are many things we can learn from them.
He seems to be lost in the divinity of music… Must be a passionate devotee. Nice click 🙂
Amazing pic .. Sadhu looks like posing for the pic 🙂
I love your this series Indrani 🙂
wonderful capture of the sadhu!
Nice shot of the Pandit … he seems so lost in the music
When Kniwledge Meets Rhythm
reminds me of my grand-dad… Panditji 🙂
Love this photo! Sharing our talents makes the world a more beautiful and interesting place 🙂
That’s nice of him bearing a talent within! Superb capture
Great captured.
This Sadhu is engrossed in his music. I like the light falling on the back of his head in this pic…generating a glow. He looks quite healthy for a man living on alms … I wonder where do they derive such power and patience from….hmmm
Yes Bushra the lighting was perfect that morning.
I always love your Faces of India series – what a great way to explore the character of such an amazing nation.
