Faces of India – 250 Young Girl with Gandhi’s Portrait

Faces of India

a series through which I intend to portray the various characters of my country whom I met during my travels. I bring back souvenirs, frozen moments from my travels, why not some memories of people I have met and interacted during the travels. Faces of India is a weekly series in my blog since MARCH 2011. Young Girl with Gandhi’s Portrait

Today’s faces of India series features a young girl who wanted to be photographed with picture of Gandhi’s portrait. Her father stood beside me watching his daughter pose. I asked her father, ” Did she come here willingly or you had to coax and cajole her to visit this place.” He laughed and said, ‘Arre nahin woh khud aana chahti hai (Not at all, she was keen to visit this place.” I had taken this in Sabarmati Ashram a few months back. Posting it today as the date coincides with Martyrs’ Day.

In India Martyrs’ Day is celebrated on 30th of January every year as on the same day, Mahatma Gandhi (Bapuji) was assassinated in the year 1948 before the sunset during the evening prayers.

“The tyrant dies and his rule is over, the martyr dies and his rule begins.”
