Faces of India – 248 Tourist Garlanded by Elephant
So many thoughts came to my mind when I witnessed this happening. The elephant under the instructions of mahout was garlanding the lady tourist there. This lady was one of the few brave tourists there that day who got garlanded by the elephant.
Faces of India,
Faces of India is a series through which I intend to portray the various characters of my country whom I met during my travels. I bring back souvenirs, frozen moments from my travels, why not some memories of people I have met and interacted during the travels. Faces of India is a weekly series in my blog since MARCH 2011. See more here…
You can tempt me with anything in this world yet I can never have the courage enough to do something like her. The lady too held her breath waiting for the little game to be over. Her relatives kept cheering and photographing her. I didn’t let the moment slip by, thought she would be perfect for my faces of India series.
At the same time felt so sad for the elephant who had to perform to entertain the tourists. This picture was taken in Sakrebailu Elephant Camp, Shimoga – Karnataka. Is it really necessary to make the elephants perform to entertain tourists?
Beautiful capture
Feel really sorry for the poor elephant. They are meant. To walk freely over long distances and not do this…
I agree that it’s sad that the elephant was made to do this. And the woman was very brave!
Captured well. Did not stop by this park this time. Maybe next time
Another very nice portrait, Indrani, great shot indeed!
Nice capture! The look over her face is priceless. And, I agree with your point about making animals work for our living.
Oh I would have volunteered in a nano-second! Love elephants. What a great photo!
Indrani,
I have witnessed the elephant from the temple doing ‘tricks’ for a fee.
Your question is a valid one.
I don’t have an answer.
All I can hope for is that the elephant is properly fed and mistreated (chain on the leg, I see).
The photo is nice and pretty, though the lady looks tense 🙂
Nicely done…
Have a Lovely Weekend!
Peace 🙂
Thought provoking image! The tense lady, controlling her fears, and the playacting mammoth.
Beautiful click, as usual!
My my what a picture! 🙂 … Elephant’s trunk as the lady’s crowning glory! 😛

She dared it all .
A great click indeed!
Hello Indrani, the lady is brave. Standing so still waiting for the garland. I love the elephant, great photo. Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Have a happy weekend!
Nice click … she looks so calm and composed 🙂
A Perfect one indeed. Brave Lady I must say. Great Capture!
That’s a nice capture and info Indrani ! Everything is fine as long as the animals are not tortured to perform .. taken care of, well fed, loved and well, guess I am asking too much ! Yahan to, humans are not loved who cares for animals ? :/
Fun for humans, it it so much for the elephant?
Well as long as tourists participate…..
Perfect Shot. Everyone does not has guts to do this.
o wow… superb shot!!
Great shot of a unique moment. I also have a hard time with making animals perform like this; having pets of my own I can’t imagine using them for entertainment like that.
A great capture for your Faces of India, but I feel the same way you do regarding the elephant!! Poor old guy!!
