Faces of India – 243 Local Artist from Shantiniketan Bengal
I met her at Amar Kutir, a local artist from Shantiniketan in West Bengal. How deftly she worked on the leather wallets giving final touch to it! I stood watching her for a while and she seemed amused at my interest. For her it was a routine work.
Faces of India,
Faces of India is a series through which I intend to portray the various characters of my country whom I met during my travels. I bring back souvenirs, frozen moments from my travels, why not some memories of people I have met and interacted during the travels. Faces of India is a weekly series in my blog since MARCH 2011. See more here…
I met her at Amar Kutir, Shantiniketan in West Bengal. How deftly she worked on the leather wallets giving final touch to it! I stood watching her for a while and she seemed amused at my interest. For her it was a routine work.
I was also impressed by the way she had worn her sari, covering her head with one end of the sari. One of the reasons why I captured her for my faces of India series.
It is hard for me to imagine myself in that attire while at work. She seemed to carry it well. When I asked her how she manages, she replied “it is a part of my everyday life and there was no question of being uncomfortable in sari.”
She looks quite serious 😉
I must say.. WOW
I probably would have watched her as she worked too. People who work well with their hands are fascinating.
A wonderful post. Perfect capture 🙂
What a great and characterful face. You are building a lovely collection of stories and face and thoughtful comments.
A lovely photo. Wearing a sari is what she knows; she probably wonders how westerners can wear what they do.
Practice make things easier and also bring comfort! Nice portrait on her
Lovely take. Good Shot
Wonderful lady Indrani ji . I can identify a Bengali woman easily .
Her face speaks so much. Great capture. Even in UP and Bihar, married women cover their heads like this.
my mom in law wears Saree like that…though i do not wear Saree that often, yet I can do all the work in it. 🙂 in laws teaching 🙂
The convo between you two is too touching. :’) A great capture!
You’re a good observant, Indrani. Touched by your conversation with her 🙂
Always love your beautiful photos…
Nice shot Indrani 🙂
So many adept artisans are there in Shantiniketan. Their dedication and love for their work are really laudable… 🙂
lovely… such a candid click…
a lovely, hard-working woman.
Wonderful lady Indrani.
