Faces of India – 227 Garden Manager Lal Bagh Bangalore
Faces of India
a series through which I intend to portray the various characters of my country whom I met during my travels. I bring back souvenirs, frozen moments from my travels, why not some memories of people I have met and interacted during the travels. Faces of India is a weekly series in my blog since MARCH 2011. See more here…
I met her at Lal Bagh, Bangalore. She is one of the cleaners of the garden. I watched her for some time doing her duty very diligently; taking care to see no dry leaf or twig lay scattered around the sand sculpture of Bharat Ratna Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam.
When I requested her for her pic she said: why are you taking pictures of me? Everybody takes pic of Kalam Sir. (Noticed her hand that held a broom, adorned with glass bangles?)
I asked her if knew who Kalam sir was?
She replied proudly: He was the President of our country some years back.
Dr. A P J Abdul KalamÂ
Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam was an Indian aerospace scientist. He served as the 11th President of India from 2002 to 2007. He was fondly called ‘Missile Man’ for his contributions towards the developments of India’s missile projects.
One of my favorite quotes by Abdul Kalam is: “Dream, dream, dream. Dreams transform into thoughts and thoughts result in action.”
And one more in which he redefined the word FAIL: “If you fail, never give up because FAIL means “First Attempt In Learning”.
These pictures were taken in August 2015. Kalam sir passed away few days back on 27th July 2015. This tribute to him by Lal Bagh Bangalore.
Unsung heroes they are… Who make the city look beautiful…
Who let others boast about it 🙂
Nice click!
Nice Shot !
So many bangles! Are they heavy? It's great that she is such a diligent worker.
Kudos to her & to you as well Indrani for taking her picture and thus giving message to appreciate the work of everyone!
Wow.I love her bangles (I'm a big fan of wearing dozens of bangles in the hand) and I love the way she stands confidently 🙂
I love this series! It really is the people who make the strongest memories of a place. While in Mumbai, it was a woman selling souvenirs in front of 'the gate' and the Taj hotel, that caught my eye and warmed my heart. You'll be seeing her in a future post!
She is one of those rare efficient workers, and the bangles?OMG!
