Faces of India – 210, Male Nadaswaram Player
Faces of India, Male Nadaswaram Player
Faces of India is a series through which I intend to portray the various characters of my country whom I met during my travels. I bring back souvenirs, frozen moments from my travels, why not some memories of people I have met and interacted during the travels. Faces of India is a weekly series in my blog since MARCH 2011. A temple musician playing the Indian Nagaswaram, a wind instrument popular in south of India. It is also called Nadaswaram. Initially I thought of zooming into his face, but then decided to go for this composition. The shot was taken in a temple of Karaikudi, Tamil Nadu.
You can see a lady playing this instrument – Woman Nadaswaram Player

Weightage to culture
That is another great picture of the series and our rich culture.
Lovely colours too. 🙂
A beautiful photo and I guess the wind fluite sounds lovely and very Interesting……
It's not easy to play that… Glad you took the entire pose.. 🙂
A nice click.
Reminds of Ustad Bismillah Khan.. Great asset to have these people in our country who follows this traditional instrumental music.
Such concentration!! Lovely!!
I have often noticed that when people play the instruments, they are completely engrossed in the activity. Your click brings out that aspect. Nice.
I guessed exactly it must be shot at Karaikudi! Nice portrait and play… btw. Nadhaswaram is my favorite instrument.
Ah! This is from my State. You've captured it at the right time 🙂
Excellent shot of the musician. I love it.
I'm glad you don't zoom on his face. The whole shot tells such a story!
India has rich old culture and tradition. People like them should be treasured since they are the ones who expose those dead instruments into live.
Liked those photos.
Nice shot! I can almost hear the music!
Nadaswaram is a tough instrument to play needing lot of lung power. It is generally played in open spaces in temple festivals and marriage processions. The bulging cheeks that often bellow graceful and sweet music hasbeen captured well in this picture.
Beautiful photo and I guess the wind fluite sounds lovely, would have been great to listen to it! 🙂
Nice portrait
well done!
Beautiful portrait, Indra!
I can almost hear the sound…
Nice weekend and greetings, Anna
Very nice. The person seems to be totally focussed.
You decided well. This man has more than just a nice face.
A beautiful instrument, well done Indrani.
Interesting photo,I wonder if I have already heard this instrument
This man creates an atmosphere of my far and almost forgotten past in the tropics. I remember the sounds of Asia , mysterious and strange.
