Faces of India – 182 Happiness is a State of Mind
I was in lot of dilemma for a long time whether to post the pics together, finally I did post. Both the pics were taken on the same day at different places of Bangalore city without their knowledge from a distance.
I find a lot of contrasts in both the pics. While the man, attired in evidently poor clothes, carrying a load looked happy and carefree, also amused at something, the elderly lady who seemed rich, looked lot grumpier and worried to me. For a long time I kept thinking when is a person really happy.
It also made me think if men are more happier than women? For example a woman in the same situation as that of the man in the picture, would she have the same smile and a man in the second situation, would he look so grumpy?
May be happiness is state of mind!
Faces of India,
Faces of India is a series through which I intend to portray the various characters of my country whom I met during my travels. I bring back souvenirs, frozen moments from my travels, why not some memories of people I have met and interacted during the travels. Faces of India is a weekly series in my blog since MARCH 2011. See more here…
Great contrast, Indrani. I always enjoy your work.
He certainly looks very happy, with her I am not so sure, lol !
Both pictures are expressive of contrasting moods!
We like the fiorst man. It's a lucky man. Important in a life.
One of the best in the series Indrani! You said a lot with the two pictures… It would have been incomplete if you had not posted them together. Thank God you finally made your mind to post them together! TC! Keep smiling 🙂
Interesting, Indrani. I think this is proof that money does not ensure happiness.
Thats really a good observation Indrani… We are so limited in our life style that we forget to smile many a times… lovely photos…:)
Terrific captures and how different they are!! And, yes, happiness doesn't have anything to do with wealth and attire, but what's inside and how one views their world.
True Indrani…I agree with your observation…happiness has nothing to do with wealth and attire…
Pics with such deep stories, Indrani.
yes, they make us think for sure.
So much about happiness…
Two fine photos and clearly they clicked and connected in your head. There's so much that people-watchers speculate about. I like the thoughts you shared about them.
Thanks for the comments friends.
Hi Nona, I do ask permission before taking portrait shots, but those cases I haven't taken I mention it in my post, like in both cases above.
Thanks for your interest. 🙂
Do you ask permission before taking a picture?
The carefree happy go lucky attitude vs the thoughtful and aloof look make a good contrast. The pictures of these two people bring out failure of material possession to bring in cheer in one case and the youthful grin that reflects a happy state of mind in the other case.
Great captures 🙂 Photography does involve us to think. According to me happiness lies in simplicity 🙂 Life is happy when needs are less and desires are simple:)
as always beautiful photographs and thoughtful words, congrats
Beautiful pictures, Indra!!
and I love your observation… Don't worry be happy!
Warm greetings from Holland, Anna :))
Nice photos
The first pic is a typical image of the Indian face. The second is not necessarily the cause 🙂
Nice perspective on different moods! Liked the man's happiness 🙂
A dour lady, brilliant pictures Indrani.
Very interesting photos, wonderful people shots!
Loved your insight Indrani..Nice..:)
very good observations, indrani.
