Faces of India – 159 Sadhu from Varanasi
A sadhu from Barakar, West Bengal. He said he traveled from Varanasi to Barakar by foot. He rested at various temples on the way.
I could identify him as Vishnu devotee because of the holy markings on his forehead.
Faces of India,
Faces of India is a series through which I intend to portray the various characters of my country whom I met during my travels. I bring back souvenirs, frozen moments from my travels, why not some memories of people I have met and interacted during the travels. Faces of India is a weekly series in my blog since MARCH 2011. See more here…
Happy wise eyes
A face full of history and wisdom! Such a beautiful wise man!
Thank you!
Wonderful portrait of a holy man.
A very interesting character to shoot and you have taken the pic very nicely !
Now! is this not real travelling?
This is a typical face of India. I have always wondered how people can find joy in this sort of existence.
Lovely series! One photo took me to another… especially loved reading the little snippets after each picture.
This face expresses experience and benevolence I my view. A very nice capture.
Great capture, Indrani!

So much to see… like it very much… specially the little smile in his eyes. ;-)))
Greetings, Anna
Like the portray and am amazed how you highlighted the fact that they travel long distance.
Cheerz
I cannot make out from his eyes whether he is smiling a happy smile or a sad one. This capture is very beautiful, Indrani.
A typical photograph of People who travel from place to place in saffron dress. A part of them are in quest for an eternal truth, another part disgusted from the society. I saw people travelling from Varanasi to Rishikesh and then to Char dham like this.
Lovely one.
A face on which time has drawn complicated geometrical patterns..nice shot .. 🙂
Long live such holy men!
Wonderful. I can find a smile there 😉
Thanks for the comments friends. 🙂
Fly Girl, the sadhu posed for me and talked too with me.
A beautiful portrait. Did he pose for you or did you get this shot candidly?
I am becoming a fan of your faces series. Such a nice capture.
The face is the index of his experiences
Nice that he posed happily 🙂
Well shot!
Really nice one, Indrani.

E G Camera Girl… the symbol on his forehead indicates he is Vaishnavite.
The colors are of haldi and kumkum (turmeric and vermilion)that signifies holiness and strength.

Another wonderful and unique portrait.
I really like this portrait. Very well done!
A weary by happy face.
Super portrait, Indrani. I wonder what the yellow and red paint means.
Good man/good woman, is beautiful, you can learn a lot from a sadhu.
