Faces of India – 153 Tailor in Amar Kutir Bolpur
A skilled artisan, tailor, stitching leather pouches in Amar Kutir, Bolpur, West Bengal. Notice the colorful batik print shirt he is wearing.
Faces of India,
Faces of India is a series through which I intend to portray the various characters of my country whom I met during my travels. I bring back souvenirs, frozen moments from my travels, why not some memories of people I have met and interacted during the travels. Faces of India is a weekly series in my blog since MARCH 2011. See more here…
A beautiful bag he's making for one of us
In this fast paced world, the rush kills the passion for greater understanding of people and their vocations. And these pictures from your blog, highlights the visible, yet unseen dimensions of India, and they speak beautifully.
The first thing which my eyes noticed is the batik shirt! How nice it is!
It is found only in India -this humble tailor
To me it appears that batik prints of Shantiniketan are better than the Indonesian Batik Prints. Some indonesians who were shown the indonesian and then Shantiniketan, all said "later" and thus seconding my opinion. Photography, choice of subject excellent.
Colorful indeed!
I love Batik 🙂
He looks like someone from my place… Hehehe… So it is true that there are 7 people with similar faces around the world..:P
Yet another great click!
Love that fabric; it'd make a great kurti. 🙂
The way you capture smallest of the details is remarkable, something to learn as a writer. Great work 🙂
Focused on his work !
His shirt stole the limelight. Nice pi.
I like this so much. It looks like he was so focused on his work he didn't know you were photographing him. That's a great shirt.
A lovely portrait, he has a nice smile and I think his shirt is pleasantly colorful.
Sigh. I have just finished going through my thousands of photos of India to make a birthday book for a friend…so nostalgic.
I saw so many tailors like yours; in small shops, on the street.
I like his shirt.
A wonderful portrait!
A fine shot. I like this series,
A beautiful bag he's making.
This is a wonderful portrait. I, too, like the shirt.
Beautiful photo, Indra!
It's hard work what he doing…

Oh! I have always wondered what the machines looked like that leather goods from India are sewn on. Thank you for posting this!
