Faces of India – 127 Child Bride in Bakreshwar Temple
A young bride! She was getting married inside Bakreshwar Temple, West Bengal. As I zoomed into her I had my doubts whether she was 18 years of age. I felt she was a child.
The mom of the bride was very keen that I photograph her daughter; she evaded all my questions much to my disappointment. On second thoughts I should have photographed her mother.
Faces of India
a series through which I intend to portray the various characters of my country whom I met during my travels. I bring back souvenirs, frozen moments from my travels, why not some memories of people I have met and interacted during the travels. Faces of India is a weekly series in my blog since MARCH 2011. See more hereâŠ
Her expression says it all – she's being thrown into the great unknown and is absolutely clueless… đ
Of course she looks young to be married…can we ever get rid of this "child marriage" thing in India?
She does look rather young, but maybe she is just 18!

candid click Indrani
She indeed looks vry young ;(
a beautiful , young n innocent face of India..
u were right she is nt 18 !! Child marriage continues..
Hmm…Very innocent..:-)
For the poor, they believe that marrying off ones daughter is one less mouth to feed.
Only thing missing is a smile đ
this is infact so sad, for a society which worships women as a goddess. btw, very thoughtful capture Indrani.
Loved the capture and also loved the way the groom is looking on from behind the bride, perhaps he didn't want to be clicked đ
This child bride looks clueless. Beautifully captured Indrani.
Nice candid capture
not sure about age ! but she look innocent !
I dont think she is 18 years old, it is a case of another bride marriage so rampant in India
Can't say much about her age but she looks very beautiful and innocent.
…how many kinds of faces India has..!Good selection!
She is indeed below 18,Child Marriage is still on in India..Shame on Us
Hmmmm interesting.
Nice capture. She is certainly not 18!

Agreed you probably should have got a picture of the mother as well, surely shee too would have been underage when she got married, educating one and all about early marriage and child marriage is a must. She does look lovely and I hope and pray that she have a married life and as usual nice pic. đ
She doe not look like 18 and its sad that even when the authorities know that this is happening, they find it convenient to look the other way.
I agree with you that the bride looks less than 18 years old. Her sari is beautiful.
She is a beautiful bride. I agree that she looks young but I think it's hard to tell. Sometimes people in their 20s still look like teenagers and teenagers look like they are in their 20s. I hope she has a happy life.
she does look too young to be married, but sadly, it seems to be a common problem across the country.
She is very beautiful. I hope her husband is good and kind.
Look at the person hiding behind her! He perhaps knows well that hers is not the right age to be married off! Sad but yet still true of many parts in India đ
Oh Indrani!
Your photo is beautiful.
The girl impresses with its beauty and clothes.
Greetings from Polish far.

A face in need of change!
Beautiful image. A pity that child marriages are still so common in villages.
My first reactions too were the same, was she 18?. Alas, we have a long way to go
Yes, lovely and very young I suspect, but what a great capture for your series, Indrani!! Have a great weekend!
I don't know about the young lady's age, but she does make a beautiful bride.
