Faces of India – 106, Vegetable Seller of Kolkata
Faces of India,
Faces of India is a series through which I intend to portray the various characters of my country whom I met during my travels. I bring back souvenirs, frozen moments from my travels, why not some memories of people I have met and interacted during the travels. Faces of India is a weekly series in my blog since MARCH 2011. Vegetable Seller of Kolkata
I was taking pictures of a market in the by lanes of Kolkata when this vegetable seller called me and asked to take his picture.
“Who knows, I may die in another couple of months. Let some people at least see me before that.”
I was taken aback by his request; though I got a feeling he was being dramatic. I told him it is not for newspapers but for putting it up on computer he seemed happy and asked me to mention he was a vegetable seller. He got chatting with me after that.
While there are many people who don’t like being photographed, there are many who crave to be photographed and share their pictures. Some have means to do so while some don’t. This vegetable seller of Kolkata definitely wanted some moments of fame and happiness. I was too glad to contribute.
Meet another vegetable seller here: Faces of India 257
Love his attitude and the underlying message of living life to the fullest. The commoners can teach us a lot about life and interesting to learn so much about people.
It happened to us too when we visited Ooty.. You are really honored in doing such a nice job for the Vegetable Seller, one of the most important Personalities of our day to day life, Indrani! God Bless!
Interesting indeed!
Ah! the stories you come across while travelling. 🙂
Nice, Indrani.
A hard working face. Generally people don't come up with such requests….Kolkata tei hoy eshob… 😛 😀
Nice shot Indrani.. Some people are like this only we find them dramatic but actually they are full of life.. It's always pleasure to meet such people
You share very interesting faces Indrani.
Smart and keen guy. His appearance is better than many film heroes. Thank you for making him (an average person with interest) popular.
Great capture, Indrani. So nice of you to take his photograph. He looks happy, posing for it 🙂
He said that !! Sad …
Nice 🙂
The truest face of the nation.. so sweet of you to capture him! :')
It may be he may suffering from any critical disease. nevertheless True face of my nation.
His request speaks of a deep need many feel to be seen. Invisibility can be so dehumanising, really. Thanks for sharing this picture.
Face of humility!
What a click!
The dialogue of the vegetable seller reminds the fact of human desire to live forever, at least in the memory of others or some photographs.
A man with a nice face!
Interesting people you meet.
Oh my! What a sad request…before he dies??? Sigh
I am glad you took it as well.
Nice portrait by the way.
Hugs

It is good that you clicked him (and uploaded). Must have made his day.
I went one step ahead and took prints of the people whom I photographed at the market place and gave them the prints. You should have seen the joy on their face.
Great portrait. I hope he'll feel better.
This vegetable seller is a handsome man as well as a very friendly one.
looks familiar this time…
Hello you!
