Faces of India – 269
Faces of India,
a series through which I intend to portray the various characters of my country whom I met during my travels. See more here…
He is the guide, the caretaker, an employee of ASI, in charge of opening and closing the temple as per the visiting hours. He seemed a very knowledgeable person to me. He introduced himself as Yogesh, with a torch in hand he guided us through the interiors of Lakshmi Devi Temple of Doddagaddavalli. It was pitch dark inside, thanks to his torch we could watch our footsteps inside. Yogesh highlighted the important sculpted images on the ceilings of the temple. We were told by him that if we whisper our wishes into the ears of Nandi, the bull, our wishes would be fulfilled. The Bhoota and Preta figures too were highlighted; they are the dwarpalakas (gatekeepers) of Goddess Kali’s shrine. In the end of the tour he doesn’t demand anything as fees and is happy with whatever you give him.
Looks honest, wise, and serious. He’s really a goodwill guide.

Nice captured ,
Keep sharing
You continue to inspire me with this series and I keep hoping I’ll work up the courage to ask people if I may take their photos and feature them on my blog in a similar manner. I love this feature you do!
He looks tense to me.
Thanks for refreshing my memory! 🙂
Not only a guide, but a person who shows path towards God.
Love his concentrated gaze at the camera…very sincerely posing for this portrait. So sweet 🙂
Yes, the guides in some places are must. Without their explanation we don’t come to know some minute details.
What a beautiful surrounding ! This man (guide) looks to be wise and sharp ,great capture Indrani…
Nice picture. We need more guides like him.

Your photos, especially these portraits, always reward a look! Thank You Indrani
