Faces of India – 264 Veerabhadra Dance Troupe Leader
Faces of India,
Faces of India is a series through which I intend to portray the various characters of my country whom I met during my travels. I bring back souvenirs, frozen moments from my travels, why not some memories of people I have met and interacted during the travels. Faces of India is a weekly series in my blog since MARCH 2011. See more here…
I entered the restaurant La Uppa of Grand Mercure Hotel in Mysuru to find a group of these artists sitting around a table in their costumes. I was immobile for a second wondering if I was at the right place. There were 8 of them each looking fiercer than the other.
Look at his crown, it is bigger than his face, I wondered how heavy it would be! Was it easy to carry on head and dance too! My eyes scanned them in disbelief and then I saw a couple of them smiling at the fear written on my face. That eased me a bit.
Kiralu Mahesh (he seemed to be Veerabhadra Dance Troupe Leader) gave me his visiting card maintaining that same cold gaze. So they belonged to the famed Veeragaase dance troupe. They assembled there to perform for Chief Minister when he would arrive at the hotel for inauguration. No smiles were exchanged, when I sought his permission for a picture he put on an even sterner look!
Superb. Gotta give it to the guy and his courage in making an expression and heavy metals he wore. Respect:)
And I am sure, the stern face was a pose and not for you!
Prince for a while !!
Beautiful looking man, I love his head dress.
I like it when people carry on traditional, folk things. Looks like he posed with his sterner look to be photographed. Nice to hear from you.

I think someone with a natural thick Moustache would have looked better
Fierce and noble! Great shot.
His look kinda scared me! Y so serious…;) The crown is too impressive!
Awesome crown. Makes you feel as if you’ve been transported in a time machine !
Even though you have captured him beautifully.
How you find such amazing pictures??? Awesome
They are also called Veeragaase dancers. Yes the make up is very prominent in Veeragaase.
Ah, always like watching and learning about folk art!
That’s awesome – don’t mess with him!
Looks all set for RamLeela ☺️
He looks like turned to be the character he do… I think the crown and accessories should be made of cardboard or light metal! Great portrait
I like his crown.. he looks quite dramatic 😛
Wow, I’m not sure I’d want to dance in that outfit but it’s handsome.
But what an amazing click!
Snakehead!!!!
The crown is very striking
haha… could visualise the situation!
Liked his crown a lot.
Total awesomeness in picture. These guys show must be spectacular!
