Faces of India – 260 Vendor Selling God Images for a Living
Vendor selling God images for a living
He sat there, may be he was sitting there through out the day, trying to get a customer buy his God. He is doing a service to God, why doesn’t God help him? Is God really there! Seeing his looks I wondered if he could make a decent sale for the day! At least he is working hard to make a decent living. I think God will relent eventually and help him out of his difficult conditions.
The phrase “God helps those who help themselves” is a popular motto that emphasizes the importance of self-initiative and agency. The phrase originated in ancient Greece and may originally have been proverbial.
The picture was taken in Mayapur, West Bengal, April 2013.
Faces of India,
Faces of India is a series through which I intend to portray the various characters of my country whom I met during my travels. I bring back souvenirs, frozen moments from my travels, why not some memories of people I have met and interacted during the travels. Faces of India is a weekly series in my blog since MARCH 2011. The harsh realities of life! And we crib about silly things!
Showing up one’s skills and making a living is one of the primary duties of man as long as that doing does not create a disorder and threat for continuation of healthy social life around.. A great Post Indrani!
He will be in our prayers :’)
He is earning a living in a decent way. God bless him!
Great portrait, such a deep expression.
This poor man , his face his expressions says it all Indrani.. God only save India where the gap between haves and have nots is so wide and unless that is narrowed down the grim situation
These poor people are in is going to exist for years to come ! .
Development should get started from grassroot level and not vice versa.
You are so right Vatsala ma’am.
Development should start from grassroots level only then can India progress.
his face is expressing his tough life.
The emotions have been captured and expressed so perfectly.
Work is worship and dignity of labour…!
Irony, thine name is life!
Such a contrast between the beautiful colors in the pic and the gloomy look on the man’s face.
Lovely connotation with the image.
It is the best use of the concept of God: “Selling Gods for a living!” It’s the only use of the ‘God with Forms.’ God saved Jesus by not saving him. Attachment to God is the last attachment one could have. Any kind of attachment is hindrance in spiritual path, even Ramakrishna had to get rid of Kali to attain the Highest Spiritual State.
I pity this poor guy. He’s lacking the marketing skill that multimillionaire Godmen have. They are also selling God on a higher sophisticated level for living luxurious lives.
Beautiful image. It makes me sorry that the man who believes in god, and makes so little.
Nice captured.
Well captured but I am sad about that person
A telling portrait
Cheers to the hard work.
May God bless.
I hope things work out for him!
Great shot – I hope he makes enough money to live on…
The pathos captured beautifully!
