Face of India – 348, Flower Seller from Bangalore
Faces of India from Bangalore Karnataka
Faces of India is a series through which I intend to portray the various characters of my country whom I met during my travels. I bring back souvenirs, frozen moments from my travels, why not some memories of people I have met and interacted during the travels. Faces of India is a weekly series in my blog since MARCH 2011. See more here…
Rows of flowers sellers in front of temples is a common sight. Not only women, men too sell flowers. You must be remembering the face I featured from Chettinad? See here: Faces of India – 167.
In this post I have a flower seller from Bangalore. Hers is a sad story, yet she smiled throughout telling her life story. She had 3 children but one of her daughters passed away.
She said: My two children are grown and busy in their daily lives. Since my elder daughter passed away I had to bring up her 2 daughters. Now I have got them married.
All your life you sold flowers? I asked.
No. I have done several other odd jobs. But now I sell flowers near temples. I get some free time now when I rest a bit – she replied.
Suddenly I could see the tiredness on her face. It seemed to me as if life has worn her out and finally she seems to be free of family burden.
I loved the contrast of textures and colours in the first photograph; even the dancing shadows added poignancy to the sad story which followed. It’s lovely to see your camera is still hard at work! ♥
Hope she got good business after your post..
That’s a really nice portrait, Indrani. I love how the flowers work with it.
What a lovely face.
There is a story in every face – some sad, others happy .
Worth a Thousand Words
We just see their face…behind every face is a life and a story…
