Can You Identify the Camouflaged Creatures?
The path was covered with fallen leaves and I was enjoying the rustling sound beneath my feet, when something jumped up. I was startled. Surely there are some camouflaged creatures around. This happened while taking a walk in the banks of the Kabini River backwaters in Karnataka.
Camouflaged Creatures
Thick growth of trees and plants make the walk easy even at 11 and 12 at noon and there I was simply looking at this nature. It was healing and calming. The rustle and crackle of dried leaves under my feet was like music to my ears. But then suddenly, there was a distracting rustle among the dry leaves… as if some creature was trying to flee the stamp of my mighty foot.
I stood still, very much afraid now to put the next step. What could it be? A snake? If it was a snake I better flee. I mustered up some courage and put my next step… no sound…Then the next step and I saw it, staring innocently at me. I smiled to myself, ‘How could I be scared of this tiny fellow?’
Can you spot him? He is so well camouflaged. At least can you guess who he is? And as I continued my walk I came across another well camouflaged creature, sitting cosy in the bark of a tree. This should be easy to guess and spot. Let me know your guesses about these camouflaged creatures, you will have the answers soon.
Updated with Answers for Camouflaged Creatures
I got the most overwhelming response for the tiny ‘spot the critter’ contest, identify the camouflaged creature contest last week. Almost everybody gave the right answers for at least one of them. Some of course had both answers right.
Hitchwriter was the first with both answers right.
Others who got both answers right were Keats The Sunshine Girl, Ribbon, Rajesh, Anu, Deborah Godin, Adrienne in Ohio, Carletta, Julie, Karen, Ajeya Rao, Pratiksha Kulkarni, Ravishankar, Hilary.
The frog was spotted rightly by:
Dora, carmat, Baron’s Life, Esther Garvi. This one is a brown tree frog. Its broad darker brown patch flanked by a darker brown to black stripe running the length of the back helped me identify it. They are so tiny, you can get an idea by comparing it with size of leaf.
The spider was spotted rightly by:
Sylvia, Ladynred, Reader Wil, Destination Infinity, Anya.
You can download and put the pics in your blog if you wish. I hope you are enjoying this as much as I am.
Great BLOG…….
I'm either looking at more leaves, or the back end of a toad in the center of the first photo. The second one is a spider. 🙂
Is that a spider web on the first? I still can't see anything even on the second which doesn't make the first guess closer either bohoho… 🙂 this was fun!
I see a very tiny little frog in the middle of the picture, but I had to look for a loooong time… (I was expecting a snake or a lizard!)
I can see a frog in the first and as others have posted I do see a spider in the second picture.
1st pic – frog (may be)
2nd pic – spider
I see a toad hiding beneath a leaf in first. Second pic, i think is very masterfully taken, with a focus outside the object(Spider). Nice Indrani. What camera do u have?
Is it a pup in the first picture?
Difficult to say
Yippieeeee…… FUN 🙂
1~ I see nothing 🙁
2~ spider with a bleu coat on 🙂
=^.^=
It was a frog….! now I'm sure
I couldn´t find anything! There could be a frog somewhere hiding on the bark but I can´t see it.
The second picture, I was able to spot the spider (after reading the comments), but the first one…. is it a chameleon? I didn't spot, just a wild guess.
Destination Infinity
I tried very hard, I asked mommy to enlarge these pictures but I could not find them! 🙁
Any clue?
purrs and love
Luna
I love quizes, though this one is difficult! I see the spider with the blue back in the second photo! The creature in the first photo is very difficult to find.
I found the little frog/toad in the first one. He is really well hidden … he looks as though he has a leaf type marking on his back..
The spider was a little harder to find in the second one. At first I thought I was looking at a moth or a butterfly and then those long legs came into focus 🙂
That was fun !!!
Wow, whatever he is I can't spot him! Amazing technique! I wish I could use that at work sometimes.
Great pics as ever too!
🙂
No idea, but the pictures are cool.
I don't know I looked and looked, went for my glasses, I think I just got a headache from staring so hard. In the end I think I saw a bump that might be a frog or a toad, really great photo's
Can't find anything in either picture. This is real camouflage.
I don't see anything on the first picture but the 2nd one looks like a spider.
I saw a kind of frog in the 1st pic…
It seems like I see some tiny feet sticking out of the leaves in the top one. It is fun looking anyway 🙂
Great shots, and no, I couldn't spot him. 🙂

I saw the frog and the spider, cool shots.
A Grass hopper, it must be…!
Indrani, I can't see anything!
I hope it's not a snake! 🙂
Very nice pictures, however.
What fun!
Is that little frog or toad legs in the first one?
The spider in the second made me shudder when I found it – you could touch him and not know he was there. 🙂
My post is here: Carletta’s Captures.
I see some legs underneath a leaf that appear to belong to some kind of toad or frog. The spider in the second shot is really amazing!
Is he in the grass with his head poking out?
Took me quite a while, sweeping bakc and forth, but I found them both! Great shots, and a fun post!!
first is a frog, second is a spider, right???
A quiz! I see some kind of insect in the second photo .. sort of a silvery grey …
I'm not going to rest until somebody points out what's in these pictures. I can't see it!
I'm not seeing it …
I played too 🙂
Went back to look again — maybe a frog??? Fun!
I could see the spider in the second one, am still trying to find the first one. What a fun post! Certainly played with my challenged eyesight!
I'll be back for more answers!
Oh fun, a quiz! Not sure what they are called in English, but it looks like a slimey naked snail.
And a bug in the second shot.
Glad you didn't have a snake near you.
I can't believe how blind I am. I could not find a single thing even on the second photo. I was guessing a praying mantis on the first. Ok, that must be too far away. But I'm enjoying the search 🙂
I will come back. Maybe tomorrow my visual senses will be lucky. Have a great weekend Indrani.
They both fooled me – but I see odd things in so many photos, I'd be the last person to guess right, anyway!
cool!!! the first is a frog and the second a spider, right???
Well composed shots.
I think the first one is frog and second one is a spider.
I can't see anything, either.
me again…
first one frog?
second one spider?
now this is my final answer 🙂
I think they are frogs…
Ribbon 🙂
In the first – a lttle frog, and the second, a spider.
I took my glasses off to get the answers!

while tracking lioness you must not notice anything else but the lioness… !! 😛 😛
Thanks, The Things We Carried!
Thanks hitchwriter, you won't need glasses :).
Keep trying, while trailing the lioness you must have noticed these in the dry leaves.
I think the first one has a frog in it… but hell its difficult to spot… I can actually see 2 frogs…
now you gotta send me 200 rs for my appointment with the eye doctor
the second is a spider… !!
