Faces of India – 233 Boys in Sabarmati Ashram
Faces of India
a series through which I intend to portray the various characters of my country whom I met during my travels. I bring back souvenirs, frozen moments from my travels, why not some memories of people I have met and interacted during the travels. Faces of India is a weekly series in my blog since MARCH 2011. See more here…
I was in Sabarmati Ashram clicking pictures of Mahatma Gandhi in the huge photographs there. These 2 young boys were keen to be photographed with Mahatma Gandhi’s picture. When I told I can’t give any printout to them, they said it is okay just show us on your screen. They stood as close to Mahatma Gandhi in the photograph as possible, I was touched by their enthusiasm.
I was also impressed about the fact that these boys in Sabarmati Ashram were exploring the life of Gandhi here. Normally boys of their age would be playing around in fields or hooked to their mobile games.
Notice the T-shirt the boy on the right is wearing? The worn out British flag on the boy’s T-shirt. Wonder what Gandhi would have thought about that T-shirt. He had relentlessly worked to end British rule in India!
What do you think?
Interesting click.:)
Cheers,
Sriram & Krithiga
very interesting composition… cute boys 🙂
The interesting combo — the background and the T-shirt in the foreground.
Cool pic, Indrani.
Lovely shot! Gandhi was a great man.
It is a fantastic shot! The boys look very content!
The spirit is Indian even though he wears the British flag…..:)….you have a keen observation Indrani…..
I was there with you, when you were taking this pic. BTW interesting composition of this pic **wink** **wink**
It is really good to this kind of genuine respect for Gandhi in next generation
Interesting image! Great symbolism here.
It feels good to be back on your blog. Congrtas on the new URL! You show such resilience, I feel suitably motivated 🙂
The poor boy probably doesn’t even know what T shirt he is wearing, maybe its a hand-me-down or something he bought on the streets, makes an ironical picture nevertheless.good one Indrani.
I am not sure if he is poor or he is wearing a HMD… the combination of different elements in the pic makes it interesting.
Thanks for the kind words on my blog Sujata. 🙂
This is a cool shot! The English flag does add a bit of drama to the shot – not sure if the young boy even realised it 🙂
I too doubt if the boy realized it Siddhartha.

Yes. Thank you Jeevan!
A nice click! Did you ask him why he was wearing that T-shirt?
No Anupam I didn’t ask him that.
How can I?
I had asked him why he likes Gandhi, to which he replied: Gandhi got us our freedom. He read in textbooks.
Great kids, love Mahatma Gandhi, we were right to love him. Excellent photo.
