Bannerghatta National Park Visit on Sunday

Bannerghatta National Park and zoo visit satisfies to a large extent the desire to see wildlife from close quarters! We have spent several Sundays with our kids visiting this national park with our kids. A good planning and cooperative kids enable a successful Bannerghatta National Park visit.

Another good weekend destination from Bangalore is the Ranganathittu Bird sanctuary.

Bannerghatta National Park Bangalore

A National Park in our own city! This is one of the few National Parks located in the vicinity of a big city. It comprises of Zoo, Butterfly Park and Wildlife Safari. It is possible to do all of them in one day. However there are separate tickets for each of these.

Bannerghatta National Park Safari

The main attraction is the safari tours conducted by them. It is hilarious to see the scramble for window seats as soon as people enter the mini bus. Seat numbers aren’t specified in Bannerghatta National Park tickets. So the first ones to enter the safari van will get the choicest seat and also the best Bannerghatta National Park photos.

These safaris vans took us to get a closer view of the majestic beasts. And I too made good use of the opportunity of shooting at them with my Canon DSLR. We were lucky to have spotted two white tigers resting on the roadside.

The lions were in a separate enclosure. Two of them were there staring as if waiting for a photo shoot.

Each time an animal would be spotted the excited tourists would rush to that side of the mini bus and would squeal and scream. The conductor of the trip requested not to disturb the animals. The excitement would subside then with lot of Ssshhhhh…. Indian tourists yet to come of age!!
At the bear enclosure we had a bear trying to keep pace with us. It wouldn’t just look at us, but we went some distance together!

Bannerghatta National Park Zoo

The visit to zoo takes maximum time. The park has huge collection of mammals, reptiles and birds, all enclosed in different and well spaced out areas of the park. Whenever there is a birth of a new animal the crowds at the zoo surge. Lots of jostling and excitement among the kids. I really enjoy seeing that. Our Bannerghatta National Park visit was planned once to see a baby hippopotamus. Oh! How cute it looked walking beside its mother.

Bannerghatta Butterfly Park

The Butterfly park started in Bannerghatta National Park in 2003. It has a beautifully maintained garden to sustain the local butterfly population. The Butterfly Park has a a conservatory and laboratory where research and captive breeding is carried out. There is a very informative museum and a cute little curio shop.

Kids really enjoy touring this little garden and become quiet here. They tread softly so as to not disturb the butterflies  which settle down on flowers. My daughter was once thrilled to get a butterfly settle down on her hand.

  • How incredible to see all these animals. Did you ever feel like you were encroaching on their space a bit or did the safari keep a good distance? That’s funny about everyone scrambling for the seats! Made me chuckle – like when a plane lands and suddenly everyone’s on their feet in the aisles getting their bags…only to have to all wait together at the main baggage claim. Anyway I digress…love the tigers! Would love to see tigers in the wild one day.

  • Bannerghatta National Park looks like a great place to visit. You really did capture some wonderful photos of the magnificent animals. Perfect place for a good family outing.

  • WOW! You got some really good shots of the animals. The tiger ones are my favourite. I would love to go to this National Park.

  • I visited it once a decade ago. I was not sure if it was a zoo or a real jungle but it turned out to be a mixture of both. What I liked was that some animals were “adopted”, i.e. provided for, by some local citizens.

  • This is better than seeing these animals at the zoo. At least here, you get to observe them from their habitat. This reminds of a similar experience we had in Korea. We got to see bears and white tigers from the bus. Great experience!

  • I’m not a big fan of the zoo concept so I tend to travel to parks where wild animals roam around freely. This seems like one stunning location. I’d love to go here next time I’m in India.

  • Even though I had visited Bannerghatta long back somewhere in 2002-03, but the memories are as fresh as they can be. This was the place where I saw a herd of lions during the safari. Thanks a lot for updating about the latest timing and ticket prices.

  • I visited this national park last year and really impressed with varied species I spotted here. For once I was happy in the bus seeing the leopards getting close. Thank you for sharing beautiful pictures here. Worth visiting

  • My husband and I enjoy photographing wildlife – this would be a wonderful location for us to visit. Love the photos!

  • This is one park which still eludes me. In 2012, I planned to go here but Hampi, Belur, Halebidu and Shravanbelagola took priority. South India amazes me with its unexplored terrains. Next time I am in Bangalore, I will visit this park.

  • Hii!

Yesterday I promised myself to be here and I am starting to enjoy your blog right from the starting..
This post is reminding me of my trip to Bennerghatta In october 2007.:)
…. thanks for kind words for me on my blog!

  • Good photos!
want to see more of them…travel bytes and pictures!
