ASUS ZenFone Zoom, a Smartphone Camera Review
ASUS ZenFone Zoom is the latest smartphone in the market which is camera centric. It was released in Dec 2015. Last week I was given a ZenFone Zoom on returnable basis for reviewing it. The focus of review is more on its camera features. I have my Digital Single-lens Reflex Camera (DSLR) for photography when I travel so the first striking advantage I felt on holding this ZenFone Zoom is that it is so LIGHT. At 185gms I wondered what quality images the lens would capture!
Nature Photography with ZenFone Zoom
The phone is stylish, sleek and rigid; it felt good to hold in hand. My first click was of sunset from my apartment complex. The image turned out good, no haziness, no blur and natural colors captured.
I was eager to experiment more smartphone photography. I decided to do some random street photography. The wall of a nearby complex had some amazing paintings done on them. One click there.
The sun was just setting and we were crossing the Old madras Road, Bangalore. I wanted to focus just on the glowing sun. Apprehensive whether I would miss the moment or not I clicked continuously three to four times. Back at home I was pleased with the captures.
The Laser Auto Focus feature and the 4 Stops Optical Image Stabilization features of the camera didn’t fail me. Proves to be a phone with best camera.
Inspired I decided to make one trip early morning the next day to capture sunrise shots. Well, I live in no scenic location. I live in a concrete jungle. So I decided to frame the hanging bridge of K.R.Puram, Bangalore. But my bad luck being really bad I got cloudy skies the next morning. Nevertheless took pictures of the hanging bridge and against a grey setting.
Street Photography with ZenFone Zoom
These pics aren’t from Europe. They are from our own Goplan Signature Mall on Old Madras Road, Bangalore. The facade is grand, almost in European style and the architectural details too good. I zoomed in with ASUS ZenFone Zoom and got incredible captures.
Still Photography with ZenFone Zoom
More smartphone photography at home of all things colorful and beautiful. The macro shot of flowers from my balcony garden did have fine details. ASUS ZenFone Zoom can easily be featured in top 10 camera phones. Guess what is the blue striped object? Answer will be updated in this post next week in the comments, do check back.

Thanks for this wonderful review…
Tc, keep smiling 🙂
Sunset is captivating.. Nice still photographs too. Well captured for the review.. Loved it 🙂
Great shots. Ideal and handy too for quick photography.
Quite impressive model,..quite apt for a selfie-o-holic like me. 🙂 Thanks for sharing!
Sounds like a great camera mobile! Impressive zoom, and the detail got on the architecture were amazing… impossible to believe it was shot with smartphone cam. I have galaxy s4 mini with 8mp and I got it mainly for light weight (107g) and compact in size – 4.3” display.
Hello, gorgeous photos from the phone. I love the sky shot. Beautiful colors. Great review, thanks for sharing. Enjoy your day!
The camera seems to be really good! Have been hearing great reviews about it and the pictures you have posted seems to confirm them!
I have another zenfone and have seen that the output is good.
Wow! The camera is really good. loved all the captures.
Very well reviewed dear 🙂
These are truly some neat shots. Thanks for the review.
Wow! Great pictures and thanks for sharing the review.
Is that a pen and the rubber on it that’s there for a grip?
Clarity and good one and enjoyed the article thoroughly.
Nice review 🙂
The zoom function is really good. A phone is as good as as its camera…at least for me :)…and seeing your clicks…zenfone looks impressive.
Great smartphone shots. Its clear why the dslrs are losing terrain.
you could have easily passed some of them as from portugal…no one would have suspected
Superb clarity. Like the way you put ironical humour about architecture of Goplan Signature Mall. The phone is indeed good for travelers who don’t like to carry heavy cameras.
These pics aren’t from Europe. They are from our own Goplan Signature Mall on Old Madras Road, Bangalore. Some parts are developing like Europe in India . Zen Fone is being popular .
Sharp pictures alright. Seems like a good phone
Gorgeous shots.
The sky looks so beautiful. Loved the still photography as well.
Have heard a lot about this phone and I would love to see how the optical zoom performs. I find it a bigger claim to compare with DSLR but definitely camera of this phone has very unique value for the users.
Is the camera better then the iPhone6s?
Hi Nima, That will be an interesting comparison. I will try and get hold of iPhone6 just to check on this.
Nice pics. The camera looks good for the phone.
Nice pictures! Thanks for the review
Wow.. Great..
I wanted to buy a new phone. This review helped me in making my decision. 🙂
very impressive output!
Very impressive results!!
Beautiful captures!
Beautiful sky.
Sydney – City and Suburbs
The photos are gorgeous!
The mural on the wall is really neat looking. Nice shot of the bridge.
Beautiful review, Awesome pics with ZenFone Zoom.
A great and interesting post for the day, Indrani! Thank you for sharing the information!! Enjoy your weekend!!
I like it too. The phone is worth keeping. 🙂
As for the returnable basis, I heard they gave away lots of phones at the event launch and hence didn’t have any to give to us. 😛
looks like it does a great job for photos! thanks for linking the mural wall and bridge, too!
I used this phone for a week to test its camera. Got some great shots! Like the zoom and the image stabilisation:) great pics Indrani!
