Most often it is the kids who enjoy festivals the most!

We in India celebrate 21 major festivals through out the year. While moms are busy making delicious stuff and family elders in general involved in shopping, it is the kids who enjoy the most. Other than eating they indulge in lots of innocent merry making. This Ganesh Chaturthi celebration too I observed their wholehearted participation. Unfortunately this time there were some tragedies. During immersion of the idols in lakes few of these young boys drowned.

It was disheartening to read how some young boys, probably in their enthusiasm overlooked safety measures. Farewell to Ganesha this time has resulted in inconsolable tragedies for some families. Ganesh visarjan (immersion) is an important part of the puja. Most often children accompany adults for immersion of idols to get blessings. I saw this boy continuously doing some stunts just to attract attention of the camera wielding people at the lake. He came out safely later after having his fill of enjoyment swimming alongside huge idols of Lord Ganesha.

  • Here, mostly the kids and youngster from fishing community do the immersing at the sea, but for our clay idol we dissolve at home by immersing the idol in a tub of water! And you’re right about the celebration… kids are behind the enthusiasm about the festival.Nice shot
