White Cherry Blossom Flowers in Europe
It was just the beginning of spring when I was in Frankfurt in the first week of April. The trees seemed to getting ready with their colorful drapes. Even the plain white sakura blooms were a sight to behold. The trees bursting with white cherry blossom blooms looked like little white clouds. The tender shoots and buds in each branch indicated there is more that I was going to miss when I move out of Frankfurt.
“White Sakura” refers to a variety of cherry blossom tree with white flowers. Sakura is the Japanese word for cherry blossoms, and these trees are widely celebrated in Japan for their beauty and significance in Japanese culture. While the most common variety of cherry blossoms in Japan have pink flowers, there are indeed varieties with white blossoms. These white cherry blossoms are equally revered and are often associated with purity and simplicity. They are also used in various cultural and religious ceremonies in Japan.

White Sakura Tree along River Schelde, Antwerp
We strolled along river Schelde, flowing by the city of Antwerp. It felt good taking the leisurely walk by a river in a foreign country. We watched the boats leaving and entering the harbor, the flying and screeching seagulls a pleasant distraction.

And there by the river we saw a cherry flower tree bloomed to its full capacity. The tree had a thin layer of soft pink blanket under it. Surprisingly it was the only tree along the whole stretch of river bank that had bloomed. The shot was taken from Het Steen, a medieval era fortress by the riverside.
I was so in love with the scene that I wanted to make an entire white sakura wall paper for my bedroom!

Cherry Blossoms of Japan

Hanami in Germany
One of the famous Hanami (the Japanese traditional custom of enjoying the beauty of cherry blossoms), cherry blossom festival of Germany is in Hamburg. May be I will be able to visit it some day when spring is at its peak. For the present, for you and me, I have these pictures of cherry blossom flowers to enjoy.
Colors of Cherry Blossoms
Cherry Blossom comes in different colors and different number of petals. It is said there are more than 600 varieties. White, light pink and dark pink are seen commonly. Some varieties change from dark pink to light pink to white throughout the different stages of blossoming. And some change color from greenish yellow to white to pink.
The ones I got to see in Frankfurt are the five petal cherry blossoms.

When do Cherry Blossom trees bloom?
Cherry blossoms bloom from March 15 to April 15. A cherry blossom tree remains in bloom only for a week or two. In the recent years the trees are blooming earlier and earlier. The reason attributed to this is global warming.

No, at least not in D.C. Breaking off a blossom or branch is considered as vandalism of federal property. If not arrested you will definitely be fined.
