Beautiful Sunset Picture to Paint
A tiny bridge over a water body; we happened to cross it sometime last year during our road trip in Tamil Nadu the southernmost state of India. If you are looking for that one most beautiful sunset picture to paint then this is it! We were returning from Mahabalipuram to Kanchipuram, after a hectic day of sightseeing.
The bridge was of simple construction but it definitely seemed to be the lifeline of that area. From a distance I saw the sun sliding down fast bidding adieu to the day. The sunset scene called for a pause to our road trip.
An hour before or after this, the place wouldn’t have the same charm.
A cycle was parked by a tree in the banks of the stream. I looked around for the biker. For a moment I envied him/her. To me cycling seemed the best option to travel then.
This was indeed the best waterfront sunset spot in our journey.
Ernest Hemingway said, “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them.” I couldn’t agree more.
Sunset Picture to Paint
As I was approached the bridge the sun set in the distant horizon came within the frame of my camera. The colorful oasis of light beckoned me. It looked straight out of a picture story book to me.
I had to stop to capture the moment. Vehicles zoomed past, their drivers had no time to stand and admire and I wondered how could they not?
There was untamed shrubs all around, yet I had the urge to sit down, unpack some snacks and drinks (which I didn’t have) and watch the horizon. Within no time the colors changed from pale orange to bright orange.
Colors reflecting off the water provided joy and tranquillity. To me the cycle against the water reflecting sun’s setting rays looked mesmerizing and I froze those moments.
Some vertical mode and some in horizontal mode, I also included and excluded the setting sun in some frames. When I see the shots now, they carry me back to that same peaceful ambience.
Bicycle left reclining against a tree made the perfect element in frame. Do you think if the bicycle wasn’t there the picture/scene would have been less magical?
Modified Quote for the Sunset Picture
I modified a quote by Chanda Kochhar for this picture. “Aim for the sky, but move slowly, enjoying every step along the way. It is all those little steps that make the journey complete.” (Sadly Chanda Kochhar is now involved in some corruption cases… that is another story). My modified quote is:
Aim for the destination, but travel slowly enjoying every halt along the way. It is all that little halts that make the journey complete. ~ Indrani Ghose.

I'm glad you stopped to admire the sunset. Your photos are wonderful.
Cool shots… 🙂
I'm glad you weren't on that bus! Otherwise you would have missed this beautiful scene! Thanks for stopping by.
The cycle parked against the tree and the setting sun is so chaste and peaceful a scene, that even the people who have not actually seen this setting can feel the lovely calm vibe.
A beautiful spot. With lots to see in it.
I love your photo. The colors of the sky, the reflection in the water, the slight choppiness and the blue cast of the concrete.
It works for me.
Dreamy and beautiful. I love this post.
I must apologise for not taking time to comment of late, but I have been enjoying every bit of your blogs.
best wishes always

We are glad not only that you stopped to capture this moment, but also that you shared it with us and linked it on Sunday Bridges.
Lovely photos with that warm glow!
Really fine peaceful views, great atmosphere.
nice pics
I very much like the sky in these photos, Indrani. Warm and inviting. 🙂
Gorgeous warm colors of the sunset! Maybe it's because they see it everyday? 😀
The reflection on the water is awesome!
I love the light on the water and the color of the sky. And the bridge too, of course!
Sometimes the simplest is the most beautiful.
Lovely… this is what RK Narayan's Sarayu would have looked like today, I imagine. That bicycle adds a relaxed air to the pic. Beautiful shots
what a serene scene. this reminds me of my hometown in the province–life is simple and peaceful.
Isn't it great when we stop to capture the moment… with our eyes, with our hearts… with our lens. 🙂
its really beautiful!!! but then how often do we stop to see the sun rise or set just over our house? it looks as beautiful at times…. we are just too used to it.. and its probably the same with all those people who hurried by without a glance!
And a beautiful moment it is too!! Well captured.
Hugs
