Pictures of Statues of Ice Hockey Players in Bratislava
During the walking tour of Bratislava we spotted the quirky bronze statues, along with them we spotted some modern statues too. They were statues of Ice Hockey players.
Sports enthusiasts reading this blog will know Ice Hockey is the national sport of Slovakia. It was sheer coincidence that when we were in Bratislava on 5th May 2011 when the IIHF World Ice Hockey Championships were on. The competitions were on during the last week of April and the first two weeks of May 2011. Slovakia was hosting their first Ice Hockey World Championship.
Though we couldn’t get to see any of the matches or any of the players there, we saw the statues of players installed there. There was one statue each representing the different countries taking part in the competition.
As we walked through the lanes of old town of Bratislava, we never could guess which country’s players statue would pop out next. And then there would be a short photo session posing with the player’s statue, tourists waiting patiently for their turns.
I have here the Pictures of Ice Hockey Players taken during my tour of old town of Bratislava.
Immediately after the games were over these statues were removed. So you may not see them during your visit now.

I liked the statues. Different and unique.

Wonderful captures of the two statues. I am wondering if ice hockey is as bloody a sport in your part of the world as it is aver here. As of late their have been horrible and bloody fights during the games. I do not understand it because the sport is such a great one to be tarnished like that here in the US. genie
Colorful captures. Hockey is our national game, have never seen such statues… Sad.
Nice articles. I'm just blogwalking and very happy to stop here. And also give you some comment here.
Dont forget to give us some your comment into my blog too.
Thanks for share,

cool shots even if it is not really my kind of sport.
Interesting these colored sport statues. Nice pictures, Indrani!
Lovely sports statues.
Hockey or Ice hockey were never of any interest to me, but these statues are great !
The statues around Bratislava are really neat. Placing statues of players from the teams in the Championship around town is a very interesting way to celebrate the event.
Hockey is a game I'm quite familiar with. :)) I like these colourful statues.
As humans we love to pose beside special characters whether they are real or statues. This is a lovely way to honor the athletes that compel us to watch their sport.
I love stuff like those statues.
Impressive statues! These fellows must be very good!
Thanks for your comment. I hope that you try to answer the questions, for Roger did, and he was rather good. He only missed 3 answers.
These are neat statutes. They are life size andlook so real.
I watched a lot of hockey with my first partner when I still lived in Canada. Not any more since coming to Asia 25 years ago. Too bad you didn't get to see a game, but the statues are fun. 🙂

They look real if you don't get closer to them. Thanks for sharing.
You missed out on the real thing! But these statues also are wonderfully done!
When I was young
ice hockey was Canadian
and not played professionally
in America. Then the FLYERS came to Philadelphia and everything changed!
It is now an American sport!
They still talk about the 'miracle on ice' when US beat USSR at Olympics (1980?)
