How Maa Durga Descends on Earth to Conquer Evil?
Maa Durga descends on earth to fight and conquer the evil. Bengalis worship Maa Durga along with her children. The idols are placed together. Her son Lord Ganesha and Goddess Lakshmi to her right and Lord Kartikeya and Goddess Saraswati to her left. These pictures of Goddess Durga were taken at Ulsoor Bengali association, Bangalore.
How Maa Durga Ascends on Earth?
But how Maa Durga descends on Earth indicates the future. The mode of transport, her vehicle, varies from year to year. Most often they are indications or omens of what the fate of the year ahead will be. Her vaahan (vehicle) usually is a buffalo, elephant, horse, Palanquin, or boat.
Depending on the day of the week of descent the vehicle is chosen. Arrival in a boat indicates arrival amidst heavy rains. Often the theme of pandal depends on mode of transport of Goddess Durga. In the year 2017 She was depicted with Her family in a huge boat in Ulsoor Durga Puja pandal. Arrival on elephant indicates prosperity. Departure in a Palanquin indicates widespread epidemic.
According to shastras (scriptures) if arrival is on Saturday or Tuesday then she will arrive riding a horse. If the day falls on Thursday or Friday, the vehicle would be palanquin. For a Wednesday it is boat.
When is Durga Puja in 2019?
Durga Puja is going to be celebrated on 4th October, 2019 with the Panchami Puja. It will end on dashami, 8th October, 2019.
