Faces of India – 84 Little Vendor Blowing Bubbles

Happiness is blowing bubbles… but not for this boy. He is demonstrating his bubble blowing product to make sales. Children flocked around him. At his innocent age he should be playing with it but his family hardships are such that he is selling it. While I was capturing him for my faces of India series I was just wondering whether he enjoys his work. The picture was taken during Durga Puja celebrations here in Bangalore.

Faces of India,

Faces of India is a series through which I intend to portray the various characters of my country whom I met during my travels. I bring back souvenirs, frozen moments from my travels, why not some memories of people I have met and interacted during the travels. Faces of India is a weekly series in my blog since MARCH 2011. It’s beautiful as well as sad! What a world we live in that the childhood is selling its happiness!

An untold story in a picture! Introspective.

Hi Rakesh I am glad the writer in you saw a story in this pic. Thank you!

  • Happiness indeed…..can something be more fascinating than bubbles…..fragile yet filled with load of laughter….!

  • Hello Indrani,

I am waiting for the day when there wont be a single child blowing bubbles or selling balloons in the streets in order to earn money.

Nice capture! please continue clicking more such pictures!

  • I like this poignant photograph very much. It kicked off a memory of a photograph of a boy bubble vendor I took, just after I arrived in Mumbai. http://amasc.blogspot.in/2011/08/mumbai-arrival.html Have a look, their expressions are so similar.

What a positive thought and wish! Thank you D. 🙂

  • I had a look to many of ur pics on this thing called Faces of India and loved the series you have started…it is simple yet very innovative and though your shutter you are opening our eyes of moments and people whom we ignore in our daily fast life…

The above one of the boy blowing bubbles in order to attract kids to buy his stuff is really a good thought and piece from your end…he might like and also not like what he is doing but then to earn he will have to do this eventually…and it is so touchy and a pity sight to see that a young boy who should be playing with these and studying is actually making all efforts to sell them….

lovely thought from your mind…keep it up…if not the whole of India but then it will give a different perspective to people who visit your blog.

you have given a completely different look to this.

    Thanx and keep it up…
    Good Job!!!

Touched by your generous compliments and elaborate comment. Thanks a lot!
I feel more inspired to move on with this series now.

  • The look on his face intrigued me…a child blowing bubbles with such a serious expression and absolutely no signs of gaiety.
The text further told me the reason as well.

the series involving children is an eyeopener and shows ground reality

  • very nicely portrayed truth that we encounter on a daily basis

  • Limitless Joy.. Children alone are capable of experiencing that!

  • Such a cute capture. He seems very devoted! 🙂

  • Beautifully captured!

  • I think this is a sad picture. If it was another child playing with the bubbles, it would have been a different story. However, when a child has to make a living or himself (and his family) it’s really sad. Even the look on his face says that he isn’t enjoying. Life is tough. It’s tougher for kids like him.

  • Serious fun! :))

  • He is taking it very seriously!

  • Cute shot, Indrani!
