Faces of India – 230 Music Conductor in Lal Bagh Gardens

A music conductor with his baton directing his team of musicians in Lal Bagh Gardens, Bangalore. The band stand at Lal Bagh was constructed in 1888. During the annual flower shows orchestra performance is arranged.

Lal Bagh belonged to Haidar Ali and later his son Tipu Sultan. In 1856 it was made into a horticultural garden. This Band Stand was added in 1888 where music was played in the evenings. On the eve of the visit of Prince Albert Victor Wales to the gardens the foundation stone for and spacious conservatory was built.

During the British rule, families of British colonizers used to promenade themselves in the garden. A band played to entertain them standing under band stand structure. Karnataka Government has launched the initiative to have live music there each weekend; the music starts at 6am and goes on till 8pm.

Faces of India,

Faces of India is a series through which I intend to portray the various characters of my country whom I met during my travels. I bring back souvenirs, frozen moments from my travels, why not some memories of people I have met and interacted during the travels. Faces of India is a weekly series in my blog since MARCH 2011.
