Faces of India – 132 Driver from Kolkata
Faces of India,
Faces of India is a series through which I intend to portray the various characters of my country whom I met during my travels. I bring back souvenirs, frozen moments from my travels, why not some memories of people I have met and interacted during the travels. Faces of India is a weekly series in my blog since MARCH 2011. See more here…
Here I have the picture of taxi driver who drove us around in West Bengal, 700 km approx in 12 days. The patience he had to take us through the congested lanes and by lanes of the various towns we visited, getting directions from locals, finding eateries; we are thankful to him for everything and for the safe journey we had there. The picture is straight from camera.
People who sit inside offices and talk about stress should take a look at this man and learn a lesson or two. I strongly feel that driving in india is by far the most dangerous and stressfilled job of all.
No wonder you have had such wonderful trip!
A kind face full of humbleness. Beautiful pic.

First, i thought this section is dealing with portraiture. Then I realised that it is not only portraiture of their physical appearance, but, this is a humble attempt to recognise the inner light of them. Really a great job!
highly impressive and 'I-wish-I-had-thought-of-it' way of depiction! 😀
Great portrait. I don't see how taxi drivers have the patience for maneuvering in heavy traffic.
Looks humble
He looks tired… Lovely shot dear! 🙂
Lovely addition !
I love this idea of sharing the 'common man' with us. Kudos! 🙂
Nice pic. The taxi drivers do require a lot of patience to drive through congested lanes.
Elevating Pedestrians for their tireless efforts !! Great deed !!
I appreciate that !!
Rarely you find people like this….
Reminder to us that we shouldn't stereotype. Not all taxi-drivers are bad. You could share his contact details too so that we could avail his services too when we travel there 🙂
Wow thre are gud people indeed 🙂
This is such a cool way Indrani ji! Your attempt I can see, can rejuvenate our social integrity. All the best for your efforts. 🙂

Nice portrait of a common man.A Taxi Driver cum Guide makes him different.
About 15 years back,i visited most of the important places of Kolkata in a whole day through a taxi, and it seemed, the driver was a guide too.
He has a cool expression !
He looks so shy and modest. 🙂
Lovely guide to have.
What a kind face he has, Indrani. Obviously he is patient, too! Hope you're having a great weekend. Greetings, Jo, Tanzania.
There is a dignified aura around him. These are the people who are truly the heart of a country… The common man who works hard to earn a living. Good capture Indrani.
Nice pics.
We should all be so lucky to have a driver/guide like him! A wonderful capture and a lovely way to say thank you!!
a kind man, then…
