Faces of India – 105 Purohit from Guptipara West Bengal
Faces of India
a series through which I intend to portray the various characters of my country whom I met during my travels. I bring back souvenirs, frozen moments from my travels, why not some memories of people I have met and interacted during the travels. Faces of India is a weekly series in my blog since MARCH 2011. See more here…
A temple purohit (priest) of Guptipara temple. He did both roles of priest and guide for us. He explained the various parts of the temple to us. He said he has been doing this job ever since his childhood. Initially he started helping his father then for past few years he and one more purohit took care of the temples.
During Guptipara Rathayatra the puja, prayers offered here are in a grand scale. He said I must visit Guptipara then to see the chariot festival. There will be lot of photo opportunities then. He had figured out that I write on my travels.

Nice Portrait!!
Thanks for the comments friends! 🙂
He was a willing subject, only he got too conscious of the camera. I think he wanted to look serious.

A very characterful face !
Yeah I'd have to agree with Sylvia.. he doesn't seem to be too pleased but he makes for an interesting shot.
Such an interesting face — looks as if he isn't sure how he feels about being photographed!! Hope you have a wonderful weekend, Indrani! Enjoy!
