Facade Details of Begunia Temples Asansol, West Bengal
See more about these 4 temples of Begunia in my earlier post: Begunia Temples of Asansol, West Bengal . This post has Facade Details of Begunia Temples of Asansol.
Façade Details of Siddheswari Temple Barakar
This temple is identified as Temple number 4 among the 4 Begunia Temples by the Archeological Society of India. The carvings on the temple façade date back to 8th century and have bravely withstood the deteriorating effects of time. Architecture is of Orissan style.
Begunia Temple number 3
This temple has very plain facade details. Either the designs have worn off or they were never made at all.
Facade Details of Begunia Temples 1 and 2
The two horses of temples 1 and 2 in the Begunia Temple complex, Asansol. It looked as if for centuries the two horses have been exchanging notes about what is happening there.
Remember this face from Barakar, he was flying paper planes. I saw some of the boys had climbed up the temple to fly their paper planes. No adult around them stopped them from what they were doing. They seemed so innocent rather ignorant of the harm they can cause to themselves, and they seemed totally unaware of the importance of the heritage site in their vicinity.
Goats of Begunia Temples
While touring the Begunia Temples in Barakar I found goats loitering inside the complex freely. Nobody stops them from entering the temple interiors either. The priest helps himself to make his way taking care not to disturb the goats. I found one relaxing on the narrow edge of the temple façade.
How to reach Begunia Temples
By rail – Begunia Temples in Barakar, Asansol is well connected to other major cities around like Kolkata and Dhanbad. There are frequent trains along this route.
By Road – Take NH2 which is in good condition. I traveled by hiring a car from Kolkata.

The details of this temple are beautiful. Although the boys do look cute and innocent, I hope they didn't hurt themselves or the temple.
