Bleicheli Stadtlounge: City Lounge in St. Gallen, Switzerland

New concept in urban space where red is the new green! After the tour of Textile Museum we loitered on further to stumble on this Stadtlounge City Lounge, the Public Living Room in St Gallen.

This place was previously a drab looking area. The entire place was redesigned to make it more attractive to residents and visitors.

Can you guess what this huge bubble is?

Walking through the streets of St. Gallen we came across this unusual red street… a very bright red street. The whole area was covered with a rubberized tennis court coating.

There was a living room setting, huge tables, a pool, even a car! The whole project is the local municipality’s idea to encourage people to loiter around and chat with each other.

This modern art installation was done by Pipilotti Rist, a woman artist, and Carlos Martinez architecture firm. It was fun exploring this unique set up.

Pipilotti Elisabeth Rist (born 1962) is a Swiss visual artist best known for creating experimental video art and installation art. Amazing idea! I was stunned at this spot! A modern touch next to old medieval town of St Gallen.

St. Gallen’s municipality with some local financial institutions did an excellent job by redesigning the exteriors. This is my third favourite place after Textile Library and St Gallen Cathedral.

So? Could you guess what that bubble is? Yes, it is the street lamp there. This must be the new interpretation of sun! My only regret is, I couldn’t stay back till night to capture it lighted.
