Roadside Fish Market, Goa

If you have driven through roads of India you would have surely got more exposure to Indian way of life from the chaos along the roads. Particularly if you get to the interiors, away from city. There will be cattle crossing your path or shrines under trees, men huddled together over a game of cards, women gossiping around water taps and more.

During my drive through the interiors of Goa I happened to see a small crowd, people spilling on to road, which got me curious, we slowed down and halted a small distance away. As I approached the people I could see a small market or shop kind of gathering. On the roadside on a blue tarpaulin were several fish up for sale. It looked like a mini fish market. Some of the local fishermen made a good catch and instead of taking to main market they set up their stall on the roadside.

They were making rapid sales, something like 10 for Rs.50. So damn cheap and people were buying them like hot cakes. The nets they had were of such traditional styles, each of them full. They kept emptying their nets there and passersby kept purchasing and moving on. While taking the pics I wished I stayed nearby to cook and taste the fresh catch. Fish is my weakness you know!
