After a series of modification on original plan of the building it reached to a height of 167.5 m, which was the tallest building in Europe in 1889. 167.5 m high (It interesting how the monument got its final height) building; I cricked my neck to get a good view of the structure. ((Deep sigh!)) It used to be a Jewish synagogue, now houses the National Museum of Cinema.

Antonelli’s original vision was to top the spire with a five-pointed star. That plan later changed to a statue instead, depicting a winged genie. It was an embossed and gilded copper genie holding a lance in one hand and a palm branch in the other. A small five-pointed star supported by a pole on genie’s head made the total height of the building as 167.5 m.

Tips to Visit Mole Antonelliana, Turin

  • Arrive early as you may have to queue at least an hour.
  • This is famous for being the highest viewpoint of Turin and cinema museum.
  • It was the world’s tallest building once.
  • The elevator is glass covered so you can view the scenery around.
