Street Photography Modena Italy, Pictures from My Visit

Modena, Ferrara, and Bologna are often in news for sad reasons. The places are earthquake prone. Just some years back, in 2012, earthquake struck about 22 miles northwest of Bologna. The origin was in between Ferrara and Modena. I just hope the UNESCO sites of Modena and the people there will be safe.

Italy is very precariously located between the Alps and the Africa plate. Therefore Italy has always been a hot spot for seismic activity. Even though Italy has a medium-high seismic hazard due to medium frequency and intensity it is highly prone to damage. Mostly this is due to the fragility of buildings, high population and the high number of cultural heritage and monuments which could be affected by tremors.

I visited this earth quake prone Modena city and Bologna in April 2010 and have pleasant memories of the place. The news reports indicate the plains near Modena suffered serious damages. Some of the historical sites of the Emilia-Romagna region of the Po river valley, have crumbled. Bologna luckily escaped mother nature’s wrath.

The cities are such that one can hardly resist the temptation of falling in love with these places. We had an hour to loiter around the streets of Modena. We toured the Ducal Gardens of Modena which had beautiful tulips in full bloom.

Modena is an ancient town of Italy. It has the UNESCO World Heritage site status for its Cathedral, Torre Civica and Piazza Grande. However, Modena is more popular for its automobile industry. Almost all factories of the famous Italian sports car makers like Ferrari, De Tomaso, Lamborghini, Pagani and Maserati are located here.

Here are some views of streets and cathedral of Modena.
