Hotel Grand Mercure Mysuru, a Hotel Review

It is not always you get to see the Chief Minister of a state inaugurating a new hotel! So when I got this invite to review Hotel Grand Mercure Mysuru, that too the day Chief Minister would be inaugurating it I jumped at the opportunity. I was invited to spend a night at the new hotel and experience its hospitality. As expected the drive to Mysuru from Bangaluru was smooth in the company of other privileged bloggers.

They made our arrival memorable, welcoming us with fresh flower garlands, tilak and spraying fragrant water. a typical Hindu customary way. I was allotted a room in the fifth floor. No obstruction to the view from window, it seemed as if this hotel was the lone high rise building in the area. Mysuru still seems to have a good spread of green patches. At a distance I spotted a graveyard… hmmm… shouldn’t look out of the window at night – I made a mental note.

Rooms and Comfort

I stayed in Deluxe room with 1 double bed (there is one more version with 2 single beds). The first impression was: small, warm, cosy room. The modern room had amenities like flexible workstation, 40″ LED TV with satellite channels, tea and coffee making facilities, electronic safe and last not the least a minibar. The bathroom was stuffed well with accessories though I feel the shower area could have been partitioned well.

During the tour of the hotel they showed us the other rooms; their Executive Room with 1 queen size bed, Junior Suite with 1 double bed and Sofa, Junior Suite with 1 double bed, with Balcony, Deluxe Suite with 1 double bed, with Balcony. I took a great liking for Junior Suite with 1 double bed, with Balcony. The little balcony was too cute. May be if I return to stay with family in this hotel I can take up two adjacent ones.

Helpful Staff

Their helpful hotel staffs are on hand to provide information about local attractions and to assist with bookings should you require it. The little interaction that I had was pleasant. At one point I thought I had lost my specs; the girls in the reception there went out of their way to assure me that I would definitely get it back, no way it could get lost.

Restaurants and Bar

LA UPPU – We dined here. The amazing spread seemed to be never ending. They offer international cuisines ranging from Mediterranean, Pan Asian and local delicacies in its buffets. I relished their biryani preparation a lot, it was so flavorful! For the choosy eaters they have ala carte menu too.

BY THE BLUE – This one is must not miss place. So beautifully done up in the 6th floor of Hotel Grand Mercure Mysuru just beside the pool and open skies all around… I wish I had the time to laze around here. Very tastefully themed and decorated place, the restaurant offers wines and beverages that compliment the local cuisine specially crafted by their master chefs.

SILK BAR – For my friends who like to chill with drinks they do have a place to hang out, to sit relax and unwind. Located at the lobby level, Silk Bar is a sleek and modern bar that serves a wide range of cocktails and drinks.
