Holiday Inn Madrid – Piramides, a Hotel Review

At Madrid we stayed 2 nights at Holiday Inn Madrid – Piramides. The word that immediately comes to mind to define my stay there is: Comfortable. We arrived here from Toledo, while the whole journey of 74 km in less than an hour was smooth it took almost an hour to enter the city because of the evening rush hour traffic.

For the four of us we had two adjoining rooms connected by two doors. The rooms well furnished and bathrooms equipped with sufficient basic toiletries, not the luxury kind though. The furnishings looked fresh and clean. The night should be comfortable I thought, after all we would be only sleeping here, after loitering around in the city whole day.

Their breakfast spread was very good! It was free; the charges were included in the costs charged. Else breakfast there is charged 15 euros. The hotel seemed quite full and there was good rush at the break fast hall. Staff there was on their toes catering to every guest’s choice, particularly the different choices of kids.

Can’t really crib, but can always suggest that they increase the staff depending on the number of people staying at a time in the hotel. On lean days less staff might seem fine.

The best part was free uninterrupted strong Wifi!

The location is convenient. It is 2.1km from Madrid Palace. The metro station is very close almost at its door step one can say.

At the reception, the staff had “mind my own business” kind of attitude. No pleasantries at all. That made me wonder if they were trained staff or not, probably they didn’t understand English. After a couple of queries they fished out some tourist guide maps and metro route maps.

The big minus of Holiday Inn MadridPiramides  was the huge parking cost for 2 nights. It was 18 euros per night, more than the ticket price to some of the heritage monuments there. Parking spots are hard to find in Madrid City.

Stayed in May 2015, purpose of stay – tourism. Since the public transportation system of Madrid is good we had no hassles commuting to and fro from the hotel after walking tour of Madrid City center.  We had good restful nights in the hotel.

I enjoyed your review of the Holiday Inn in Madrid. Comfort is definitely a top priority for me when choosing a hotel room. Parking costs are definitely an unfortunate extra expense.

  • It’s a shame that the staff were not very friendly and that you have to pay so much for parking however for the price in comparison to other places, you get what you pay for I suppose. Thanks for the review. Madrid is somewhere I am going soon.

  • When you are visiting a new place/country, it always lifts your spirit when you are warmly welcomed by the staff of the hotel where you are going to stay. If this does not happen it is indeed a dampener. The hotel does look quite comfortable. The parking fee is indeed steep.

  • Nice read. The room looks nice. But such a shame the staffs didn’t have hotelier attitude. It’s a big deal to me, coming from the industry myself 🙁

  • That’s a shame that the staff wasn’t more helpful. That is a big factor for me when I travel. I often ask the staff for advice on what to see and where to eat that isn’t your typical tourist location.

  • This was a super nice read! That parking situation is rough though. I guess its a place worth considering when I arrive to Madrid even though Ive never stayed in a hotel while travelling, haha. Great post.

  • You get what you pay for I guess, although polite staff is a must for me….civility costs nothing after all? I love that they have “strong Wi-Fi”….I’ve stayed in places that have cost a small fortune but their Wi-Fi has been rubbish, so this is a definite plus! Thank you for the review!

  • Yeah those parking fees are a real pain. Recently been to Venice by car. Ouch.
Anyway, I have two days in Madrid next month and will gladly keep your review in mind what to look out for 🙂 Happy traveling!

  • Nice place to stay while visiting Madrid! I agree that the parking cost is way to expensive! Thanks for sharing 🙂

  • The place seems decent, and I have seen the no-nonsense attitude at many European hotels. Switzerland especially…

You can safely keep 2 days and for some leisurely tour may be 3 days.
You can do the Madrid Palace, couple of museums and the cathedrals there. If you have more time and are interested you can see bull fight too and may be Flamenco dance performances.

  • I loved this post immediately because you talk about Spain, one of my favourite places. I had to laugh at your use of the word “inmate” — “Staff there was on their toes catering to every inmate’s choice”— just perfect for some hotels where guests get treated like inmates.

  • European hotels really are cut and dry! 18 Euros for parking and 15 for breakfast are really steep.

Just planning my friend’s trip to Spain, going to scour your blog for tips! 🙂

  • 15 Euro for breakfast if it was not booked for the room! Wow that was steep!

  • Surprising that the staff were not that friendly and a little aloof. It does take the charm out of a place

  • Oh goodness, hotels in Seattle charge as much as $35 or $38 a night to park so the price you paid, while high, doesn’t quite hit the absurd mark like we have in the States. Good report.

Thanks for that travel tip in Seattle. You are right compared to that cost is less in Madrid.

  • hmm, booking.com usually indicates if parking is free or charged. I guess any hotel in that area would have cost the same
