Faces of India – 246 Tourists Posing for a Selfie with Idols

Tourists posing for a selfie. The craze for posing for selfie is equal to craze for posing with an idol. When both crazes are combined the joy knows no bound. Their smiles say it all. I found them posing before before idol of Nandi (bull, the vehicle of Lord Shiva) in Aghoreshwara Temple in Ikkeri, Karnataka.

“Now tourists have to put themselves in the picture. It’s about ‘me,’ not about the place that I visit.”

Travel selfie has become more commodification of travel experience and culture. Modern tourists want to place themselves in the destination image often forgetting the sanctity of the place. Tourist photography was once a good practice of photographing just the destination in various lights and angles. Sadly it is no more so. Only a handful of serious travel photographer remains who work hard to capture the destination and its details.

Faces of India,

Faces of India is a series through which I intend to portray the various characters of my country whom I met during my travels. I bring back souvenirs, frozen moments from my travels, why not some memories of people I have met and interacted during the travels. Faces of India is a weekly series in my blog since MARCH 2011.
