Faces of India – 244

Faces of India,

a series through which I intend to portray the various characters of my country whom I met during my travels. See more here

faces of India 244This week this lady from Gujarat, westernmost state of India, is featured in my faces of India series. Compare the style of saree worn by the woman in my previous post who was from Bengal, an eastern state of India. Both have pulled the saree end over their heads, while one has done from right, other has done it from left.

Thanks to Arvind I now know the styles are called seedha palla and ulta palla. Indian women wear saree in many more different styles. I will feature them as and when I keep touring different states.

This lady was selling vegetables in a road side shop in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.
