Faces of India – 243 Local Artist from Shantiniketan Bengal

I met her at Amar Kutir, a local artist from Shantiniketan in West Bengal. How deftly she worked on the leather wallets giving final touch to it! I stood watching her for a while and she seemed amused at my interest. For her it was a routine work.

Faces of India,

Faces of India is a series through which I intend to portray the various characters of my country whom I met during my travels. I bring back souvenirs, frozen moments from my travels, why not some memories of people I have met and interacted during the travels. Faces of India is a weekly series in my blog since MARCH 2011. I was also impressed by the way she had worn her sari, covering her head with one end of the sari. One of the reasons why I captured her for my faces of India series.

It is hard for me to imagine myself in that attire while at work. She seemed to carry it well. When I asked her how she manages, she replied “it is a part of my everyday life and there was no question of being uncomfortable in sari.”
