Faces of India – 243

Faces of India,

a series through which I intend to portray the various characters of my country whom I met during my travels. See more here…

faces of India 243I met her at Amar Kutir, Shantiniketan in West Bengal. How deftly she worked on the leather wallets giving final touch to it! I stood watching her for a while and she seemed amused at my interest. For her it was a routine work. I was also impressed by the way she had worn her sari, covering her head with one end of the sari. One of the reasons why I captured her for my faces of India series. It is hard for me to imagine myself in that attire while at work. She seemed to carry it well. When I asked her how she manages, she replied β€œit is a part of my everyday life and there was no question of being uncomfortable in sari.”

A lovely photo. Wearing a sari is what she knows; she probably wonders how westerners can wear what they do.
