Faces Of India – 234

Faces of India, a series through which I intend to portray the various characters of my country whom I met during my travels. See more here.

Both of us spotted each other almost the same time and both of us walked towards each other with our goals in mind. She wanted to sell her little stone grinder to me and I wanted a pic of hers for my faces of India series. As I walked towards her she was convinced I would buy the little stone grinder, instead she was surprised when I asked her to pose for me. Initially she was shy and then after some coaxing she relented. (The pic was taken in Chikmagalur, Karnataka.)

Her family makes these little stone grinders from granite. They make around 10 to 12 pieces per day and there have been some lucky days when she could sell all of them. Later she coaxed me in to buying one. I bought the small one for Rs.250. It is a show piece in my kitchen now.
